A seemingly endless line of men and women in uniform spanned a massive section of Broad Street for hours on end, waiting to say goodbye to the citys first fallen female firefighter, Joyce Craig. Some shedding tears, others offer condolences to their comrades.
A procession of emergency vehicles followed behind a fire truck carrying the body of 36-year old Joyce Craig-Lewiswho on Tuesday became the first female firefighter to die in the line of duty in Philadelphia history.
The Philadelphia Firefighters and Paramedics Union Local 22 has created a memorial fund for Craig's children. Donations may be sent to Local 22 Joyce Craig Memorial Fund, 901 Arch St., Philadelphia 19107.
