Abstract:

The processing of mail pieces relies in part on automated address interpretation of captured address field images to generate sortation signals that control automated mail sorting machinery at outgoing and incoming mail centers. In alternative implementations, a coding depth file (âCDFâ) controls (i) the depth to which a captured address field image is resolved and (ii) a time delay in performing address interpretation. In one aspect, a CDF includes a first set of data associating a depth value with each of a selected plurality of incoming mail centers to which an outgoing mail center sends mail pieces. The depth value controls the depth to which a stored address field image is resolved and corresponds to a level of refinement to which automated sorting machinery at the associated incoming mail center sorts mail pieces. In another aspect, a CDF includes a second set of data associating a deferral time with stored address data, the deferral time representing at least an acceptable maximum length of time before sortation signals are rendered accessible to the automated sorting machinery at the incoming mail center.

The threat scanning machine management system can be arranged in a hierarchical manner, which enables threat scanning machines at various locations to be connected into regional, national or international control centers for greater management efficiency. The network may be wireless and the control computer may be portable, enabling a supervisor to remotely manage the threat scanning machines while remaining mobile about the facility, or elsewhere. Additionally, the threat scanning machine management system can be accessed and monitored remotely from a web browser via secure Internet access.

Abstract:

A load bearing apparatus is configured to simulate a payload. The load bearing apparatus includes a load member configured to simulate the mass of a payload, a frame having frame members, a plurality of retainers configured to support the load member, and first and second outer guides coupled to the load member. The plurality of retainers includes a first retainer positioned at a first height and configured to support the load member at the first height, and a second retainer positioned at a second height different from the first height and configured to support the load member at the second height. The first and second outer guides are coupled to the load member and are configured to receive therebetween at least one lifting member of a lifting device. By using load members of different weights and positioning them at varying heights, different centers of gravity can be achieved.
