Simplified data message terminals and data communicating voice terminals are described for providing additional functionality in a facility using a wireless data communication system. The simplified data message terminals provide message and paging communication to employees or customers in a simplified terminal configuration using the existing data communication system. By performing voice to data and data to voice conversions, the same system provides voice communication without interruption of data communication services.

Abstract:
Optical scanning of one and two-dimensional barcode symbols is carried out using a variety of ergonomic scanner embodiments which can each be used either in a hand-held mode or in a fixed-mode. In certain embodiments, hand-held scanners are described which can if required be easily positioned in a number of desired orientations on a work surface. Other embodiments disclose point-of-sale arrangements incorporating removable barcode scanners that can, where necessary, be removed from the point-of-sale unit and used by the checkout operator to scan a large or bulky item in a "point-and-shoot" mode.

Abstract:
A scan head is adjustably mounted in a ball-and, socket joint on a scan module or housing of an electro-optical system for reading coded indicia. The scan head is movable about three mutually orthogonal axes intersecting within the scan head, thereby steering a light beam emitted from the head and/or steering a field of view of a sensor.

Abstract:
Two-dimensional information such as a written signature can be captured and subsequently reconstructed by using an electro-optical scanner. A multi-row preamble code and a multi-row postamble code flank the signature, and each code has a row identifier for identifying which row is being scanned by a scan line emitted by the scanner, as well as start/stop data for identifying when each scan line traverses the boundaries of a space containing the signature.

Abstract:
A point-of-sale unit for electro-optically reading bar code symbols includes a housing having a handle and a curved head. The head and the handle have support surfaces for engaging a work surface to support the housing in various orientations. The handle may be removably mounted behind the curved head.
