Abstract:

What is described herein is a tough yet flexible polymer which is polyvinyl alcohol grafted with a water or alcohol soluble monomer. The grafted polymer has strong holding properties and high humidity resistance, which are particularly suitable for use in hair styling and skin care products. The grafted polymer preferably is made in a solvent such as water, alcohol and water-alcohol mixtures, in the presence of an initiator.

Abstract:

The present invention contemplates a translucent, preferably clear, anhydrous gel composition (for example a solid stick, soft solid, cream as well as any form commonly referred to as a gel), especially an antiperspirant stick composition, comprising: (a) dibenzylidene sorbitol; (b) a selected derivatized guar, especially an hydroxy C. sub. 3 -C. sub. 4 alkyl guar having a level of hydroxyalkylation of 0. 4-1. 5 molar substitution ("MS"); and (c) a solvent selected so that is will not react with the DBS itself or, if an acid catalyst is present, will not react in the presence of DBS with an acid catalyst such as an antiperspirant active salt.

Abstract:

The invention comprises a cosmetic composition which is a translucent to clear stick having low tack. The cosmetic sticks are formed by combining (a) from 5. 0-50. 0 weight percent of a silicone fluid phase which comprises at least one hydroxy functionalized silicone fluid, at least one stabilizing agent and, optionally at least one additional silicone material; (b) from 40-95 weight percent of a gellant/solvent phase which comprises a mixture of dibenzylidene sorbitol and at least one solvent such as a polyhydric alcohol (for example, propylene glycol); and (c) an effective amount of at least one active ingredient.
