"As they add more and more Android devices and that mobile monetization is lower than desktop monetization, you're going to see this trend," says HfS Research analyst Jonathan Yarmis. A majority of the world's mobile devices run on Google's Android operating system.
"How many more" of these layoffs are HP employees "going to be subject to?" says Jonathan Yarmis, an analyst at HfS Research. "When does it stop? We don't know where the bottom is and, we fear, neither does HP."

Jonathan Yarmis, principal analyst at The Yarmis Group, told Eweek.com that the price Microsoft is reportedly willing to pay for Yammer -- which was valued at $500 million in a February round of financing -- shows that they know they're behind.
"For companies of that scale, it gets really hard to make these changes," said independent analyst Jonathan Yarmis. "Changing the direction of a battleship and turning it into a PT boat is almost unprecedented."
Social-sharing site Pinterest, a digital pin-up board, is down the list because, as analyst Jonathan Yarmis points out, it doesn't have nearly the loyal customer base as Instagram and could face issues over intellectual property.
