  • Switching Device With Secondary Switching Function

    view source
  • US Patent:
    58544550, Dec 29, 1998
  • Filed:
    Mar 25, 1997
  • Appl. No.:
    8/824005
  • Inventors:
John Cranick - White Lake MI
Mark Feldman - Farmington Hills MI
  • Assignee:
UT Automotive Dearborn, Inc. - Dearborn MI
  • International Classification:
    H01H 900
  • US Classification:
    200 1B
  • Abstract:
A switching device includes the ability to perform a primary and secondary switching function through the use of a single switch handle. A primary switch contact is activated when the switch handle is moved in a desired direction. A secondary switch contact is activated when the switch handle is further moved in the same direction. The secondary switch contact includes a generally flexible conductive member supported adjacent a printed circuit board. An actuator portion of the switch handle moves into contact with the generally flexible conductive member causing a central portion of that member to flex toward and contact the printed circuit board. Such electrical contact results in a signal being generated that is indicative of a desire to accomplish the secondary switching function.
  • Electronic Child Security Door Lock System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    58967680, Apr 27, 1999
  • Filed:
    May 15, 1997
  • Appl. No.:
    8/857208
  • Inventors:
John Cranick - White Lake MI
Jeffrey K. Wiersing - Walled Lake MI
Daniel Mittelbrun - Farmington Hills MI
  • Assignee:
UT Automotive Dearborn, Inc. - Dearborn MI
  • International Classification:
    E05B 6314
  • US Classification:
    70264
  • Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and a device for selectively controlling the lock condition of the doors of a vehicle. The door lock control device includes a set of at least three switch contacts incorporated into a single switch device which allows a user to activate each contact through the use of a single handle. Closure of the three switch contacts provides the user the ability to lock all doors and to selectively unlock subsets of all the doors through the use of the single switch handle. A first switch contact is activated when the switch handle is moved in a desired direction. A second switch contact is activated when the switch handle is further moved in the same direction. A third switch contact is activated when the switch handle is moved in an opposite direction. The second switch contact includes a generally flexible conductive member supported adjacent a printed circuit board.
  • Modular Switch

  • US Patent:
    60546638, Apr 25, 2000
  • Filed:
    Jul 18, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    9/118772
  • Inventors:
John Cranick - White Lake MI
Boris Karasik - Walled Lake MI
  • Assignee:
Lear Automotive Dearborn, Inc. - Southfield MI
  • International Classification:
    H01H 302
  • US Classification:
    200338
  • Abstract:
A user-activated modular switch assembly includes an actuator assembly slidable between a first position and a second position on a housing. A static knob or a rocking knob is selectively mounted to the actuator assembly to provide either conventional slide actuation or rocking activation of the switch. The actuator assembly configuration includes integral mounting members allowing for the direct mounting of either knob type.
  • Combination Mirror And Memory Switch

    view source
  • US Patent:
    59397969, Aug 17, 1999
  • Filed:
    Jan 23, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    9/012844
  • Inventors:
    Roberto Tomassi - Livonia MI
Mark Feldman - Farmington Hills MI
John Cranick - White Lake MI
Gennaro Fedele - West Bloomfield MI
  • Assignee:
UT Automotive Dearborn, Inc. - Dearborn MI
  • International Classification:
    G05D 300
  • US Classification:
    307 101
  • Abstract:
An electrical switching unit includes a first switch for positioning a vehicle component or activating a memory function. A second switch controls the first switch to select between positioning the component or activating the memory function. Preferably, the switching unit controls the positioning of the right and left side mirrors and activation of a memory function. In one embodiment, the second switch has three positions to select right side mirror positioning, left side mirror positioning, or memory function. The first switch includes four sub-switches to control the upward, downward, inward, and outward adjustment of the right and left side mirror and activation of the set and recall modes of the memory function.
  • Symmetrical Circuit Connection Board For Vehicle Application

    view source
  • US Patent:
    56125771, Mar 18, 1997
  • Filed:
    Aug 11, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/514409
  • Inventors:
Robert M. Schmidt - Livonia MI
John R. Cranick - White Lake MI
  • Assignee:
United Technologies Automotive, Inc. - Dearborn MI
  • International Classification:
    H05K 102
  • US Classification:
    307 101
  • Abstract:
An improved symmetric circuit connection board may be utilized on both the driver and passenger sides of a vehicle or in left and right-hand orientations. In the past, two distinct boards have been provided for use on the driver and passenger sides. The inventive symmetric boards includes central circuit stampings surrounded by a molded body. Openings extend symmetrically, through the molded body to the circuit stampings such that the assembler may selectively place one opposed face of the board facing outwardly and connect the board as appropriate. Should the board be utilized on the other side of the vehicle, the opposed face of the board faces outwardly for connection. The symmetric board may thus be utilized for either left or right hand side applications in a vehicle.
