  • Abstract:
    A foldable deck for supporting cargo in a freight compartment is provided. The foldable deck includes a pair of deck panels connected by a double jointed hinge. The foldable deck is mounted on one of the side walls of the freight compartment and is capable of movement between a secure upright position and an extended horizontal deployed position. When the deck panels are in their deployed position they at least partially define a platform above the floor of the vehicle freight compartment. The double jointed hinge has a hinge member having a pair of pivot pins and slot pins that alternate between a deployed position and an upright position. The free end rests upon a channel or catch rail on the free wall opposite the attachment wall.

    A device for securing cargo restraining apparatus on a wall of a cargo receptacle is comprised of a body member adapted for slidable engagement with an elongated track on the wall; an attachment member for attaching the body member to the cargo restraining apparatus; and first and second trigger members at respective opposed ends of the body member. The first and second trigger members are adapted to engage respective complementary portions of the track to inhibit sliding movement of the body member along the track when both of the first and second trigger members are engaged with the track, such that the body member is slidable only in one direction when the first trigger member is disengaged from the track and the second trigger member is engaged with the track and is slidable only in an opposite direction when the second trigger member is disengaged from the track and the first trigger member is engaged with the track. The first and second trigger members have respective beveled surfaces to facilitate disengagement of the first and second trigger members from the track.

    Disclosed is an improved decking beam end assembly for supporting a removable second deck in a cargo container, such as a truck trailer or a rail car. In one aspect, the improved end assembly is less likely to be damaged during use since the spring is well protected by being surrounded by other parts. In one aspect, the improved end assembly has no latch protrusions and can be more easily removed a slotted track due to the axial, non-pivoting spring loaded latch mechanism.
