Abstract:

An improved design and method of a digital decimation and interpolation filter for a multi-bit input signal, reduces the buffer requirement during a decimation operation and relieves the processing bottleneck during an interpolation operation through the use of transposition of an FIR filter structure having time-varying coefficients. The design includes an input lead ( ), a multiplier ( ), a accumulator ( ), a memory ( ), a shift register ( ), an output buffer ( ) and a sequencer ( ). The input lead receives the digital input signal. The multiplier ( ) having a first and second multiplier input terminal coupled to the input lead ( ) at its second multiplier terminal receives the digital input signal. The memory ( ), having stored coefficient sets, is coupled to the first multiplier input terminal. The sequencer ( ), coupled to the memory ( ) and the output buffer ( ), transfers each coefficient set to the first multiplier input terminal.

Abstract:

An efficient decoding of reversible variable length codes of the type implemented for H. 263++ and MPEG-4 DCT coefficients using lookup tables. Simple-profile MPEG-4 also has the option of using reversible variable length codewords (RVLC) that can be decoded in either the forward or backward direction, for error recovery. Because of the special structure of RVLC codewords, the decoding techniques for regular VLC are less efficient with RVLC. A new method for RVLC decoding is described.

Abstract:

A method for decoding a bitstream of reversible variable length codewords parses the bitstream to extract a next reversible variable length codeword, transcodes each codeword into a pseudo-variable length codeword and decodes pseudo-variable length codeword. The transcoding produces at least some pseudo-variable length codewords suitable for leading zero lookup table decoding in specially adapted hardware. The transcoding may differ for reversible variable length codewords with initial “0” and initial “1”. These differing transcodings are decoded with may be decoded with a common lookup table or different sets of lookup tables.
