Abstract:
Methods and systems for testing speech recognition systems are disclosed in which the speech recognition device to be tested is directly monitored in accordance with a text-to-speech device. The collection of reference texts to be used by the speech recognition device is provided by a text-to-speech device preferably, in one embodiment, implemented within the same computer system. In such an embodiment, a digital audio file stored within a storage area of a computer system is generated from a reference text using a text-to-speech device. The digital audio file is later read using a speech recognition device to generate a decoded (or recognized) text representative of the reference text. The reference text and the decoded text are compared in an alignment operation and an error report representative of the recognition rate of the speech recognition device is finally generated.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for enabling existing application programs for operation in speech recognition environments. Existing applications programs written with a dynamically linked library or object library, with no speech recognition capability, are capable of accepting input from a speech recognition without modification. An alternate dynamic library or object library is provided that supports the same interface or objects used by the original program. The alternate library is written so that it is aware of and receives input from the speech recognition system. The alternate library passes the input to the application program using the existing interfaces.

Abstract:
Methods and/or systems/apparatus using speech for marking and subsequently identifying one or more items having electronically-readable identifiers respectively marked thereon comprise the following steps and/or perform the following operations. First, at least a portion of the electronically-readable identifier marked on an item is inputted. A user then inputs a spoken utterance that corresponds to the item. Next, the electronically-readable identifier inputted from the item is associated with the spoken utterance input from the user. Thus, when the electronically-readable identifier is inputted a next time, the spoken utterance associated with the electronically-readable identifier may be outputted. The present invention may also be embodied as an article of manufacture comprising a machine readable medium containing one or more programs which when executed implement the steps/operations of the invention.
Wireless Telephone System Including Voice Over Ip And Pots
A telephone capable of placing or receiving calls over the PSTN or a packet network. The telephone can store multiple telephone numbers for each potential called party along with preferences that govern the order of selecting telephone numbers to service any given outgoing call. Some or all of the telephone numbers can be associated with a presence service. Presence indicators stored in the telephone are dynamically updated via the packet network connection and are used as part of the telephone number selection algorithm. The preferred embodiment is a wireless system having a base station and a remote device.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for multi-dimensional aggregation. Exemplary embodiments include a method for retrieving data from an inverted list index within a computer system, wherein the index comprises annotated postings, the method including receiving a query in a system, converting the query into a query language, scanning at least one list of postings for data from the query, aggregating the data in the list, thereby resulting in an aggregated list, wherein the aggregating includes recording the occurrence of unique values from the list, mapping the values using a user-provided definition to an alternate value, grouping the values by a user-provided mapping of values to groups, recording and mutating data associated with the unique value in the list, relating the recorded data values with other values in the index and returning the requested data from the aggregated list in a return format.
