Abstract:

A cervical speculum of the type having a first upper blade and a second lower blade, the blades movable in relation to one another via a rare hinge portion, and having the ability to be adjustable and used in conjunction with the gynecological procedure of, for example, surgery on the cervix. The improvement would include a pair of evacuator tubes which would be adaptable to the interior surfaces of the upper and lower blades respectively, each of the tubes having an adhesive material on that portion of the tube that would make adhesive contact with the surfaces of the upper and lower blades, with the tubes extending with their open ends at the ends of each of the blade portions, and extending rearwardly to the ends of the blades that are hingedly attached. Each of the tubes would lead into an evacuator tube, leading into an evacuator trap or line, so that the trap may be connected to a "stackhouse" filter which is the source of suction to evacuate the smoke and fluid from the patient's vaginal cavity during surgery. There may be further included a trap means so that the heavier liquids are contained in the trap, and the smoke from the laser surgery would be evacuated into the "stackhouse" filter for removal.

Abstract:

An umbilical cord clipper apparatus constructed of non-metallic material having a base portion and a top portion movable between open and closed positions in relation to one another via a loop hinge on their common end portion. The apparatus further comprises first and second recesses in the base and top portion for positioning of an umbilical clamp of the type which would incorporate a pair of elongated arms and a loop portion as disclosed in U. S. Pat. No. 3,854,482. The pair of clamps are positioned with a space therebetween, so that a blade member housed in the floor of the base portion, flies intermediate the two clamp members positioned therein. Further, there is provided a pair of flexing members within the hinged loop so that the clamp when in position within the base of the apparatus are engaged against the bias of the members.

Abstract:

The speculum includes a first top blade and second lower blade, the blades moveable in relation to one another via a rear hinge portion, as with a normal speculum. The lower blade of the speculum is further provided with a liquid evacuator tube extending along the interior of the speculum with an open protruding from the front of the blade for evacuating fluid from the patient during the laser surgery, and the top blade is provided with a second tube which is smoke evacuator tube similar to the liquid evacuator tube for evacuating smoke from the patient during laser surgery. In the preferred embodiment there is provided a trap in the handle portion of the speculum wherein the liquid evacuator tube and the smoke evacuator tube deposit any materials which are evacuated from the patient, the trap also including the third tube to a "stack house" filter which serves as the source for the suction created by the liquid evacuator and smoke evacuator tube.
