Janet Mittman, Durham NC - LPC (Licensed professional counselor)
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with an eclectic approach. My practice is highly influenced by postmodern theories of psychotherapy that promote use of multiple methods and finding what works for the unique needs of each individual. Although I am often fairly directive in the therapeutic process, I work in partnership with you to determine what is most effective.
Prior to counseling, my academic background included a masters degree in the sociology of education at Columbia University and an interdisciplinary doctorate in education at the University of Massachusetts with a strong focus on understanding and confronting obstacles to individual growth and well being. I worked in higher education for many years and I am also a former certified Kripalu yoga teacher. All of this experience has deeply influenced my practice. I am committed to strengthening body/mind awareness, building self-acceptance, and reducing the negative effects of stress.
