Abstract:

The apparatus and method help physically-disabled persons perform point-and-click activities or input text or control characters, which typically require the user to simultaneously control two independent dimensions to select options presented on a computer display. Computer users operate a control in a single dimension (i. e. , two directions—first embodiment) or in just one direction (second embodiment). Different input strategies allow a person using the one- or two-directional control method to emulate pointer functions and input characters or character strings. An embodiment augments antagonistic muscle groups for persons exhibiting adequate control in one direction but not the other. An additional embodiment uses available two-dimensional pointers but restricts their operation to one dimension. The output of existing sensors is converted to a form that can be input directly to a computer to be used with a one-dimensional control strategy.

The embodiments of the invention provide mechanical and electrical appara for inexpensively and swiftly converting conventional firearms temporarily into marksmanship training devices. Abstract:

Aspects extend to a baffle for directing air flow in a rack. For example, a baffle can be used to prevent recirculation of air within an equipment rack. When installed in a rack, the baffle creates a tunnel that more efficiently directs cold (or cooler) air from a cold (or cool) aisle into the intake of components that span less than full width of the rack. The baffle reduces excess air from flowing from a cold (or cool) aisle to a hot (or warm) aisle without passing through media and/or cooling a piece of equipment. Preventing excess air from flowing from a cold (or cool) aisle to a hot (or warm) aisle increases cooling efficiency. Use of a baffle can also significantly reduce cold (or cooler) air flowing into hot (or warm) aisle containment and up through the plenum without passing through any media that requires the cooling. Thus, running speed of Air Handling Units (AHUs) can be reduced while maintaining a viable pressure.

Embodiments are directed to devices configured to assist the flow of fluids in the body. The device comprises a covering for placing on the skin of a patient having protrusions which can contact the skin. The protrusions have a base proximal to a surface of the covering and an outer edge distal to the surface of the covering. Protrusions can be configured in an array, in a line perpendicular to desired fluid flow or in a spiral configuration, such that fluid flow is enhanced in the appropriate direction. The device can be configured as a prosthesis, an orthotic, a liner for a prosthesis or orthotic, or a wrap or covering that is positioned around a body part.
