Abstract:
This invention is a method and system for improved garbage collection in a distributed computing system. Garbage collection is the process of releasing resources that are no longer being utilized by the objects to which those resources are allocated. Specifically, a garbage collection system and method are described that allow for different types of garbage collection to be used at different times and/or on different objects or resources in the system. In the preferred embodiment, the garbage collection routines are contained in separate mobile code module that can be changed dynamically interchanged to provide different garbage collection algorithms.
Electrician's Measurement Apparatus And Method Of Use
The positions of electrical boxes, switches and outlets are marked and accurately located by use of an integrated measuring apparatus having multiple sets of slots, indicia printed on left and right edges of the front side of the apparatus, and levels for positioning the apparatus vertically. The integrated electrician's measurement apparatus locates the electrical boxes, switches and outlets in horizontal level even when an irregular floor is present. Such electrical devices are positioned at required distances that meet code requirements without need for additional tools. Location and installation of the boxes is facilitated. The boxes are positioned quickly and accurately in compliance with applicable code requirements. Portions of pertinent sections of the code are provided for ready reference on the body of the integrated electrician's measuring apparatus.

Abstract:
A scientific complexity quantification system calculates a specific percent complexity index rating for each manufactured product that can be graphed and compared to other products and that is based on mathematical quantifications of each product's key attributes. The complexity index takes into consideration differences in design and manufacturing complexity, financial considerations, product solution complexity and customer experience. The attribute scoring of individual products are then sorted into potential sourcing categories, such as “outsource,” “in house fulfillment,” or “further evaluation needed. ”.
Driver Controlled Automated Taxi Service And Devices
An embodiment of the disclosed technology is an in-taxi customer selection system. The selection system is placed in a plurality of taxis in the form of a device which includes a touch-screen display map of a surrounding location of each taxi. An indicator of at least one future rider desiring a taxi is exhibited anonymously on each display map. The indicator exhibits only a location, and thus, lacks destination data or information about the potential rider other than his or her location of pickup. In this manner, all picked up riders are anonymous to the driver and discrimination against the rider is actually less than in the prior art, since the appearance of the rider cannot be judged before the ride is accepted. Sensors within the touch-screen display receive a selection of an indicator on one of the display maps from a driver of one of the taxis using this system. The selected indicator is then removed from all other display maps, if shown on any at the time, and the driver is sent a confirmation of said selection.

Abstract:
A novel method, system and service for delivering and instantiating resources and services in a distributed system is described. The invention removes dependencies on location, and the need for location-awareness that are present in existing products and practices. Instead of a lookup service pointing to a specific resource base, the invention returns a proxy that uses a resource service to locate and access resources. The present invention provides a highly-available resource base, allows for load balancing resource bases, admits of any other policy-based decisions (such as cost, speed, or quality of service) on where to retrieve a resource from. For service proxy writers, the invention does not require them to commit in advance to an specific code base servers. Using this method, a priori knowledge of specific resource bases is not required, allowing applications to be constructed dynamically and from the most appropriate resources. A similar methodology is also applied to the instantiation of new services, so that the location of a container for a new service need not to be known in advance.
Novel Methods For Bone Treatment By Modulating An Arachidonic Acid Metabolic Or Signaling Pathway
Methods for promoting osteogenesis to accelerate or enhance bone fracture healing, treat bone defects, and enhance bone formation are disclosed. The methods rely on in vivo or ex vivo modulation of an arachidonic acid metabolic or signaling pathway in general, and, in particular, utilize 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors, leukotriene A4 hydrolase inhibitors, and/or leukotriene B4 receptor antagonists. These molecules can be delivered alone or in combination with one or more agents that inhibit bone resorption, regulate calcium resorption from bone, enhance bone accumulation, enhance bone formation, induce bone formation, impair growth of microorganisms, reduce inflammation, and/or reduce pain.
