Embodiments of the present invention sets forth a method and system for reducing memory bandwidth requirements for an anti-aliasing operation. The first virtual coverage information for a pixel involved in an anti-aliasing operation is maintained in memory. If a certain operating condition of the anti-aliasing operation deterministically implies the second virtual coverage information for this pixel, the second virtual coverage information, as opposed to the first virtual coverage information, is used in the anti-aliasing operation. In such situations, since the virtual coverage information is implied, it does not have to be accessed from memory, thereby improving overall system performance.

Abstract:
An ultrasonic horn for use with an ultrasonic surgical hand piece including a resonator comprises a contacting annulus having a plurality of angled lands. The lands are alternated around the annulus such that adjacent lands have opposite angles. As a result of the adjacent angled lands, a shear stress field is developed in contacted tissue due to the promotion of refracted longitudinal ultrasonic waves propagating in different directions at the interface to the coupled tissue. The shear stress field enhances the fragmentation and removal rate of fibrous, elastic, and tenacious tissue. The horn is hollow permitting suction to be applied to the tissue for controlling tissue contact with the lands.

Abstract:
Ultrasonic horns configured for use with a surgical ultrasonic handpiece including a resonator are described. The ultrasonic horns include an elongated member having a longitudinal internal channel extending therethrough. Disposed on the distal end of the elongated member is a tip lead configured for cutting and/or abrading hard tissue, for example bone. The tip lead includes an abrasive surface.

Abstract:
A stereotactic head frame localizer having a plurality of fiducial rods disposed in a plurality of sides is disclosed. The stereotactic head frame localizer includes five connected sides with each side including a plurality of the fiducial rods. One of the sides may be removably attached to the stereotactic head frame localizer. The fiducial rods include a material or may be formed from a material that, in cooperation with a selected imaging modality (i.e. CT, MRI, or PET), will appear on the resulting image scan as image points. The fiducial rods may be disposed in an orientation that is horizontal, vertical, or diagonal to an axis of a body of a patient. The stereotactic head frame localizer may be used in cooperation with a head ring attached to a patient for determining the location of a target in an x, y, and z coordinate system.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for carrying out affinity purification of a ligate. The method comprising, (a) providing a ligate containing liquid to a first side of at least one porous hollow fiber membrane with a ligand immobilized thereto that binds and separates the ligate from the liquid, (b) withdrawing a first portion of the liquid from the first side of the porous hollow fiber membrane, (c) recirculating the first portion of liquid to the first side of the porous hollow fiber membrane, (d) repeating steps (a) to (c) until a majority of the liquid has flowed through the porous hollow fiber membrane, and (e) providing an elution solution to one side of the porous hollow fiber membrane under a pressure sufficient to cause the elution solution to flow into and through the membrane to effect disassociation of any ligate-ligand bonds wherein any ligate bound to the ligand is eluted with the elution solution.
