Disclosed is a multiple rotary actuator assembly consisting of a plurality of modular actuators, wherein each modular actuator is mounted to and rotates independently about a common pivot shaft. Modular actuators consist of Integrated and Data arms, upon which multiple read/write transducers are mounted, for the recording and recovery of digital data. An integrated arm also contains a spiral conductor pattern that interacts with a multi-gap voice coil motor, to provide the necessary torque to rapidly position the modular actuator.
Digitally Controlled Variable Speed Integrated Planer Motor Assembly
The integrated planer motor assembly consists of two parts: a. A integrated planer stator assembly that combines the motors stator coils, biased MR sensors and the motors variable speed control IC into a single part using advanced high volume semi-conductor manufacturing processes; b. A planer rotor assembly having a precise planer surface containing the high energy permanent magnet and the ceramic ferrite return structure. The rotor assembly is assembled to the stator assembly using a precision washer to establish the motors small and precise air gap thus maximizing magnetic flux density.
Hermetically Sealed Mobile Hard Disk Drive Utilizing A Base Made Of A Ceramic Substrate
Disclosed is a hermetically sealed mobile hard disk drive that combines high storage capacity and performance with low power consumption and portable operation. The key enabling component of the mobile storage device is an integrated base ceramic substrate upon which a plurality of spiral conductors, MR stripes and interconnect conductors have been fabricated by a semiconductor process, and upon which electronic integrated circuits have been assembled. A single or dual rotor spindle assembly, a multi-arm actuator assembly and a ceramic housing are assembled with the integrated base forming a chamber that is hermetically sealed and can be filled with a low viscosity gas at ambient pressures or below.
Methods Of Manufacturing Voice Coil Motor Magnetic Returns
Methods to make rotary and linear voice coil motors, having either single air gaps or dual air gaps. A first embodiment of the invention involves a method to manufacture voice coil motor magnetic returns on a substrate. A second embodiment of the invention involves a method to manufacture a plurality of voice coil motor magnet assembly ends from voice coil motor magnetic returns on a substrate. A third embodiment involves a method to manufacture voice coil motors from voice coil motor magnet assembly ends.
Disclosed is a mobile Integrated Battery Powered Hard Disk Drive (IBP-HDD) equipped with USB OTG capabilities for direct connection to other USB devices, such as cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players, GPS, digital camcorders, digital cameras and other devices. These drives come in all form factors and combine high storage capacity and performance with low power consumption and portable operation. One component of the integrated drives is the base upon which all components and assemblies of the HDD have been mounted to produce a Drive-On-A-Substrate. A cover mounts to the base and separates each component and assembly into isolated compartments that can be evacuated of air and refilled with inert gases for improved performance and reliability. A first embodiment of the invention involves a method to manufacture a base. A second embodiment of the invention involves a method to manufacture an integrated battery powered hard disk drive portion on a base.

Abstract:
A data access module adapted for use in hard disc drives for accessing information from rotational disc storage media which includes an arm assembly rotatably mounted on a support means adjacent a disc stack within the drive or cartridge for positioning a plurality of magnetic slider head assemblies over a desired data track location on the individual discs of the disc stack, a voice coil actuator means provided to the arm assembly and adapted to cooperate with magnetic actuator means in the drive for moving the arm assembly in response to electrical current flow in the voice coil actuator, electronic control means disposed mounted on the arm assembly, and a magnetoresistive position reticle indicating means for counting data tracks during track access operation. A portion of the arm assembly is fabricated as a ceramic wafer having appropriately prepared surfaces on which the voice coil actuator means and position reticle indicating means are inlaid as plated metal elements and on which the electronic control means are mounted as integrated circuits.
