Systems and methods for processing blood use at least one fluid activated pump and at least one fluid activated valve. The systems and methods apply positive and negative fluid pressures to operate the pump and valve. Different pressure conditions are applied to the pump and the valve, to insure that a valve used in conjunction with a pump is not overcome by the pressure applied to operate the pump, and that both the valve and pump are not overcome by normal system processing pressures.
Method For Fabricating Three Dimensional Structures
A method of manufacturing a three dimensional structure. In one embodiment, such structures comprise porous structures suitable for implantation in a host. Such a structure preferably exhibits geometric properties that tend to promote vascularization in the area of the structure when implanted into a host. The method includes selectively applying and exposing layers of biocompatible photoimageable material to create layers forming a cross-linked latticework structure having the desired geometric properties. Each layer is formed on top of a prior layer, preferably before any layer is developed. In one form, the structure is manufactured in connection with an implant device and promotes vascularization that supports bioacceptance/biocompatibility of the implant device.

Abstract:
Systems and related methods pump fluid through a pump. The pump comprises a pump chamber, which is responsive to applied pressures to convey fluid. The systems and methods place an electrode in electrical conductive contact with fluid in the pump chamber which, in use, is coupled to an electrical source. The electrode generates an electrical field in the pump chamber that varies according volume of fluid in the pump chamber. The systems and methods register variations in the electrical field as fluid is conveyed through the pump chamber.
The invention relates to methods of characterizing autoimmune diseases by detecting and measuring at least one analyte using multiplexed assay systems. According to one embodiment, a target is detected and measured by different bead sets having different reactants. According to another approach the ratio of self-antigen to autoantibody is measured by exposing a sample suspected of containing self-antigen and autoantibody to a bead set associated with monoclonal antibody specific for the self-antigen and a bead set associated with the self-antigen.
Microporous Filter Membrane, Method Of Making Microporous Filter Membrane And Separator Employing Microporous Filter Membranes
A filter membrane, methods of making such filter membrane and apparatus employing such filter membrane are disclosed, in which the filter membrane is a monolithic polymeric membrane that includes a polymeric filter layer including a micron-scale precision-shaped pores and a polymeric support layer that has a precision-shaped porous support structure for the filter layer. Several methods are disclosed for making such a membrane using micromachining techniques, including lithographic, laser ablation and x-ray treatment techniques. Several filter apparatus employing such a membrane are also disclosed.

Abstract:
A method for detecting a plurality of reactive sites on an analyte, comprising allowing reactants on an addressable microsphere and the reactive sites to react, forming reactant-reactive site pairs distinguishable by fluorescence intensity. The invention also provides a method for detecting a plurality of analytes in a sample using addressable microspheres in combination with one or more reporter reagents. Also provided are a method for determining allele zygosity of a genetic locus having two alleles or more alleles using microparticles, and a method for detecting a plurality of SNPs in nucleic acid molecules. The instant invention also provides a composition comprising an addressable microsphere carrying at least two fluorescent reactants capable of forming reactant-analyte pairs distinguishable by their fluorescence intensity, and kits comprising the inventive composition and a plurality of reporter reagents.
