An earplug has a front portion ( ) for entering the ear canal and a rear portion ( ) that serves as a handle, with a marking ( ) near their intersection to indicate to a supervisor whether or not the earplug has been fully installed. The marking is preferably the result of the front and rear portions being formed of material of different colors. Thus, if a supervisor observes a location where a color change occurs, at a significant distance out of the workers ear canal, the supervisor is informed of a possible insufficient depth of earplug installation.
A compact exercise device () of the type wherein a person grips handle devices () lying at opposite ends of a rope that extends through a housing (), the person pulling one end of the rope away from the housing while resisting movement of the other end of the rope towards the housing to exercise. A windup spool () lies in one of the handle devices and a spring () urges the spool to wind up rope by a spring, but the spool is normally prevented from turning in either direction by a release mechanism (). A person who holds a handle grip () with most fingers of his/her hand, uses his/her thumb to depress a button () to operate the release mechanism. While the thumb continues to depress the button, the person moves a handle device away from the housing to lengthen the effective length of rope, or moves a handle device towards the housing to shorten the effective length of rope. In another device, windup spools () lie in the housing, and a person depresses a button () on the housing to operate the release mechanism.

Abstract:
Earplug assemblies are provided for mounting at the ends of a resilient band, which readily deform to tightly seal to the walls of the ear that surround the entrance to the ear canal. Each assembly includes a shell having a closed forward end that presses against the ear and an open rear end that receives an armature mounted on the band. The shell has a front end tapered at a large angle such as 90. degree. , while the armature has a forward portion tapered at a small angle such as 20. degree. , to leave an air gap between the forward portions of the shell and armature. With the forward tip of the armature pressing against the center of the shell front, outer portions of the shell front can deflect rearwardly and radially inwardly into the air gap.

Abstract:
An earplug is described, which includes an elastic earplug body (12) and a metal part (14) mounted to the body to form an earplug that can be detected by a metal detector. The metal part (14) is in the form of a band that is clamped around the body. Where the body includes a narrow stem (24) and at least one flange (34) extending from a position (56) on the body and at a radially outward and rearward incline therefrom, the band can be attached to a location (62) lying a small distance rearward of the position where the flange emerges from the stem, so the band is hidden and is prevented from directly engaging a person's ear canal.
An earplug dispenser is provided, which is of simple construction and which is easily operated by a person to dispense one or two earplugs with minimal possibility of the earplug bouncing off the person's hand and onto a dirty floor. The earplug dispenser includes a barrier (26) lying on a stand, a wheel (20) with earplug-receiving holes (22) rotatably mounted above the barrier, and a handle device (28) fixed to the wheel and lying below the barrier. As the handle device is turned about a vertical axis (60), earplugs in the wheel holes move over a dispense aperture (42) in the barrier and fall through it and through the handle device onto the palm of a person who is turning the handle device. The handle device includes a largely cylindrical handle (72) that encourages the handle to be held with the palm (P) closely under the open lower end (44) of the handle and with the fingers of the person extending up along vertical grooves (82) in the handle, so earplugs fall into the person's palm. The stand (16) has a catch pad (74) at the bottom and has an access opening (76) of less than 180. degree.
