  • Manually Operated Electrical Connector For Printed Circuit Boards

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46118705, Sep 16, 1986
  • Filed:
    Aug 13, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/639831
  • Inventors:
Howard L. Beers - Cape Coral FL
  • Assignee:
    Tritec, Inc. - Naperville IL
  • International Classification:
    H01R 909
  • US Classification:
    339 75MP
  • Abstract:
An electrical connector for printed circuit boards having two or more rows of printed terminals along one edge of the board. When the board is inserted in the connector body, the contacts within the connector are prevented from making contact with any printed terminals on the circuit board until the board has reached its operative position within the connector and all the contacts are aligned with the printed terminals they are intended to make contact with. The contacts within the connector are carried by resiliently deformable supports. The working portion of the connector includes a series of four more elements (one of which is a locking means for automatically preventing operation of the actuator unless a printed circuit board is in place in its operative position within the connector body) each of which is affected by the next succeeding element in a defined way during the operation of the device.
  • Comparative Temperature Compensating Specific Gravity Test Apparatus

    view source
  • US Patent:
    49877780, Jan 29, 1991
  • Filed:
    Jul 31, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/387859
  • Inventors:
Howard L. Beers - North Fort Myers FL
  • Assignee:
HF Scientific, Inc. - Ft. Myers FL
  • International Classification:
    G01N 910
  • US Classification:
    73449
  • Abstract:
A comparative temperature compensating specific gravity test apparatus is disclosed including an indicator float element that has a predetermined specific gravity and is freely suspended in a homogeneous test liquid. The float element includes pliable, sealed container that is substantially free of contained gas and a reference liquid that fills the container. The reference liquid has a thermal expansion characteristic which is substantially the same as that of the test liquid. The container has a mass which is negligible relative to the mass of the reference liquid. The float element is monitored in the test liquid such that floating of the float element indicates that the test liquid has at least the predetermined specific gravity and sinking of the float element indicates that the test liquid has less than the predetermined specific gravity.
  • Board-Operated Electrical Connector For Printed Circuit Boards

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46131930, Sep 23, 1986
  • Filed:
    Aug 13, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/639832
  • Inventors:
Howard L. Beers - Cape Coral FL
  • Assignee:
    Tritec, Inc. - Naperville IL
  • International Classification:
    H01R 13629
  • US Classification:
    339 17L
When the board is inserted in the connector it preferably imparts translational movement to a carriage on which actuators are mounted, and the actuators press the deformable supports and their contacts against their associated printed terminals on the printed circuit board. In this way, the board passes through four positions--safe, ready, initial contacting, and final operative positions--after it is inserted in the connector.
  • Single Dosage Substance Dispenser

    view source
  • US Patent:
    52595374, Nov 9, 1993
  • Filed:
    Mar 12, 1992
  • Appl. No.:
    7/850047
  • Inventors:
Howard L. Beers - North Fort Myers FL
Alvin L. Waltman - North Fort Myers FL
  • Assignee:
HF Scientific, Inc. - Fort Myers FL
  • International Classification:
    G01F 1114
  • US Classification:
    222246
  • Abstract:
A single dosage substance dispenser is disclosed, which includes a housing having a chamber formed therein for holding a substance to be dispensed and a discharge port that communicates with the chamber. A plunger is slidably mounted to the housing for extending through the chamber and into the discharge port. The plunger includes a first seal portion proximate a lower end thereof, a second seal portion disposed above the first seal portion and a receptacle portion located between the first and second seal portions for accommodating a single dosage of the substance to be dispensed. The first and second seal portions are sealably and slidably engageable with the discharge port. A spring is provided for urging the plunger to retract so that the first seal portion engages the discharge port and the receptacle portion is maintained in the chamber to collect the single dosage therefrom. The spring also permits the plunger to be advanced so that the second seal portion engages the discharge port and the receptacle portion is driven beyond the discharge port to dispense the single dosage collected from the chamber.
  • Indicator Circuit For A Concentration Measuring Apparatus

    view source
  • US Patent:
    50830368, Jan 21, 1992
  • Filed:
    Jan 15, 1991
  • Appl. No.:
    7/641180
  • Inventors:
Howard L. Beers - North Fort Myers FL
  • Assignee:
HF Scientific, Inc. - Fort Myers FL
  • International Classification:
    G01N 2100
  • US Classification:
    250565
  • Abstract:
An indicator circuit is provided for an apparatus that measures the concentration of a selected component in a test sample. The apparatus generates a test voltage that represents the concentration of the component in the test sample. The circuit generates a series of range voltages, each of which represents a respective one of a series of potential concentration ranges of the component in the test sample. A switching circuit selects an adjacent pair of range voltages immediately above and below the test voltage and applies the selected range voltages across an incremental voltage divider such that the voltage difference of the selected range voltages is divided into a series of incremental voltages, each of which represents a respective one of a series of potential incremental concentration levels of the component within each concentration range. The test voltages are compared with each of the incremental concentration voltages and the actual incremental concentration level of the component in the test sample is determined. There is a group of incremental indicator elements, each of which represents and displays a respective incremental concentration level in each of the concentration ranges.
