Abstract:
Organometallic complexes formed between hexaalkylphosphoramides (HAPA) and metal salts, including rare earth metals, have been found to be effective catalyst for the oxidation of secondary and tertiary alkylaromatics to form valuable oxidation products, particularly the corresponding hydroperoxides. Novel complexes formed between HAPA and metal salts of the lanthanide series have been found to be especially effective in the selective formation of the hydroperoxides at high conversion rates. By substantially increasing the agitation and/or aeration of the reaction medium it is possible to increase these high conversion rates still further.
In the process of hydrogenating an aromatic dinitrile to the corresponding di-primary amine in the presence of a catalyst, the improvement of using as catalyst a cobalt catalyst promoted with rhodium where the weight ratio of rhodium to cobalt is 1. 0 or less.

Abstract:
An ammoxidation process for preparing nitriles from m- and p-xylene whereby the formation of carbon oxides is held to a minimum which comprises reacting the xylene and ammonia at a temperature of from about 375. degree. C. to about 500. degree. C. and in the presence of added oxygen, the molar ratio of ammonia to xylene being about 3:1 or less, the molar ratio of oxygen to xylene being about 3:1 or less, the volume percent concentration of the feed being preferably about 3% to 10% hydrocarbon, 7% to 20% ammonia, and 10% to 20% oxygen, and the catalyst for said reaction comprising at least about 1 to 10% by weight of a vanadium bronze supported on. alpha. -alumina.

Abstract:
In an ammoxidation process where reactant gases comprised of a lower alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, oxygen, and ammonia are passed over an ammoxidation catalyst in a fixed or fluidized bed system, the improvement of reducing combustion of hydrocarbon and ammonia and achieving a more favorable product distribution by distributing a stream containing reactant oxygen throughout the catalyst bed.

Abstract:
An ammoxidation process for the preparation of nitriles by reaction of m- or p-xylene with ammonia and oxygen using as catalyst an. alpha. -alumina supported vanadiumalkali metal bronze promoted with niobium, whereby a high proportion of dinitrile product is obtained. The invention also embodies the niobium promoted catalyst.

Abstract:
There is provided herein a process and composition for the enhanced recovery of oil from subterranean formations comprising injecting in combination with steam a composition comprising (a) an anionic surfactant (b) a hydrotrope, and (c) an alkali metal silicate. In a further embodiment, the anionic surfactant and alkali metal silicate alone may be used in a steam recovery process as an effective oil recovery method.
