  • Abstract:
    A particle sampling system which includes a flow restrictor positioned in a conduit between a vent and an analyzer probe and restricts flow in the conduit to maintain an overpressure of sample gas at the counter probe which, in turn, forces the gas sample into the particle analyzer. The system further includes a reservoir for holding a working fluid usable with a particle analyzer and a pressurized gas source which is used to pressurize the reservoir to enable supply of the working fluid against the pressure of the gas analysis sample and to provide a purge gas for the analyzer.

    A gas emission spectrometer and method for analyzing a continuously flowing gas stream using gas emission spectroscopy to measure low concentration levels of one or more gas/vapor impurities in the gas stream. Alternating power is applied to an electric discharge source to generate emissive radiation which is filtered into an optical signal at the emission wavelength of a preselected impurity gas. The optical signal is converted into an electrical signal which is selectively amplified within a narrow frequency range centered at substantially twice the excitation frequency of the alternating power source. The impurity concentration is measured from the amplified signal upon rectification.

    A method for correcting an output from an electrochemical cell sensor, having an output responsive to a concentration of sensed species in a stream, a pressure and a temperature in an interactive non-linear relationship, comprising the steps of providing a pressure sensor for producing an output responsive to a pressure in proximity to the electrochemical sensor; providing a temperature sensor for producing an output responsive to a temperature of said electrochemical sensor; and processing the outputs of the electrochemical sensor, pressure sensor and temperature sensor in a neural network having an output function which compensates said electrochemical sensor for changes in pressure and temperature to indicate a concentration of the sensed species. An apparatus is also provided, for compensating an electrochemical sensing apparatus, comprising an electrochemical sensor, being responsive to a sensed species, and an environmental variable; an environmental variable sensor, being responsive to said environmental variable; and a compensation network for producing a compensated output based on an output of said electrochemical sensor based and an output of said environmental variable sensor, said network comprising a neural network.
