Abstract:
A belt having a body, a tensile member and an outer surface. The body comprises an elastomer. An outer surface of the belt having a profile, foe example teeth. A layer of Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene thermoplastic (UHMWPE) is bonded to the profile surface. The layer bonded to the profile surface having a low softening point allowing it to conform to a mold shape prior to cure of the rubber body material. The layer having a molecular weight in the range of 3-7 million grams per mole. The layer causes the belt to exhibit superior abrasion resistance and flexibility while reducing the cost per belt as compared to fabric jacket belts. The UHMWPE jacket belt has significantly reduced dust and debris production during operation.

Abstract:
A power transmission belt having a main belt body portion of elastomeric material, a tensile reinforcement such as carbon fiber cord, disposed in said body portion, and a sheave contact portion integral with said main body portion. The elastomeric material includes the reaction product of a polyisocyanate prepolymer composition and a chain extender. The polyisocyanate prepolymer composition is prepared by reacting a diisocyanate and a polyol substantially free of moieties oxidative at less than about 150 C. and at least one triol crosslinker selected from the same group of polyols. Either before or after reacting the prepolymer, a plasticizer selected from the group consisting of alkyl-ether di-alkylesters such as polyethylene glycol di-alkylester is added thereto. The chain extender is an aromatic symmetric primary or secondary diamine chain extenders.

Abstract:
Endless belts having driving surfaces comprising a high temperature flexible thermoplastic composite. More particularly, an endless toothed belt having a high temperature-, abrasion- and noise resistant cover element, and which comprises from about 60 percent to about 100 percent by weight of the composite of a high temperature flexible thermoplastic material and from about 0 percent to about 40 percent by weight of the composite of a frictional modifier system, and methods for constructing such belts. Such belts include elastomeric body portions which may preferably be formed from suitable polyurethane materials.

Abstract:
Blends comprised of (A) a high molecular weight elastomeric polymer; (B) a sufficient amount of an ethylene/alphaolefin/nonconjugated polyene terpolymer having a number average molecular weight of between about 1,000 and about 15,000 such that the variety of the blend is at least about 5% lower than the viscosity of component (A) alone, and (c) a curative, exhibit increased processability, and, when cured, exhibit unexpectedly desirable tensile strength, ozone resistance and oil resistance.
