Abstract:
A pressure swing apparatus includes two sorption beds, one of which extracts a component from an inlet gas mixture while the other bed is regenerated. Valves are provided for controlling the flow of the inlet gas mixture to each of the sorption beds and for venting the beds during regeneration. Sensors are provided for repetitively sensing ambient pressure and the temperature and pressure of the inlet gas mixture. A microprocessor repeatedly samples the measured temperature and pressures and repetitively calculates adsorption and purging intervals, altering the adsorption and purging intervals by controlling the valve actuations to respond in real time to changes in the conditions of the ambient and the inlet gas and thereby to optimize the production of a product gas from an inlet gas of limited supply and widely varying in temperature and pressure. The invention may be applied in aircraft to produce a breathable gas mixture.

Abstract:
A series of valves are disclosed which are specially designed for use in desiccant dryers. Each of the valves utilizes a housing (12), fabricated of standard pipe components and communicating flanges (13, 14) in conjunction with a poppet (24) and seat (20) arrangement. A support (30) fixed to one side of the interior of the housing carries an axial rod (23) to which the poppets (24) are mounted. Two- and three-way valves include a piston (36) and cylinder arrangement within the support to actuate the poppets. The poppet (224) of the check valve (200) is actuated automatically in response to pressure differentials across the poppet.
Apparatus And Method For Gas-Liquid Separation And Filtration
An air filtering device and related method for the removal of liquids and particulate matter from an air stream such as may be used in an aircraft environmental control system. The invention is comprised of an inertial separator and a combination coalescer and HEPA-rated filter preferably all located in the same housing. Air entering the housing flows into an inertial separator which removes most of the entrained liquid from the air. Substantially all of the remaining liquid is eliminated by the coalescing element with the coalescer functioning at least in part as an evaporator due to the low saturation level of the air flowing from the inertial separator. Biological and other particulate removal is accomplished by the subsequent passing of the air through the HEPA-rated filter medium.
