A butterfly valve including a housing having a hollow passage defining a flow path and a shaft mounted to the housing and extending transversely across the flow path. The shaft defines an axis of rotation for a butterfly valve element carried on the shaft. The valve element can be rotated about the axis between an open position permitting flow along the flow path and a closed position restricting flow along the flow path. The butterfly valve element includes a thin, substantially disc-shaped, flow-regulating plate having front and rear faces and a flow-straightening vane extending from one of the faces transversely relative to the shaft. The vane is solid and extends substantially to the wall of the hollow passage thereby defining separate non-communicating flow channels on opposite sides thereof for reducing flow turbulence and for straightening and accelerating flow across the plate.
An ergonomic hand grip assembly is provided for attenuating shocks and impacts and reducing discomfort occasioned by use. The assembly includes a novel slotted sleeve member disposed between an elastomeric outer cover and an inner control member.
The present invention provides an improved single stage or multiple stage reed valve for use in an air intake of an internal combustion engine. The multiple stage reed valve of the preferred embodiment includes a relatively stiff first stage reed member having ports therein, a relatively flexible second stage reed member comprising multiple reed petals to control flow through the ports in the first stage reed, and means to join each reed petals to an adjacent reed petal to cause the reed petals to move substantially in unison with one another. The present invention provides a reed valve with increased life and which is resistant to material fatigue even under conditions of uneven flow through the air intake.

Abstract:
A centrifugal pump impeller is providing that has vanes of a configuration that enhances pumping efficiency. The impeller has a base with a connector boss located at a center of rotation and a plurality of vanes extending from the base in spaced relation about the boss. Each vane having a leading end edge adjacent the boss and a trailing end edge adjacent an outer periphery of the base. Each of the trailing end edges being disposed parallel to an axis of rotation of the base, and each of the leading end edges being inclined forwardly at an angle relative to an operative rotational direction of the impeller and being spaced from the boss. For each vane, the leading end edge thereof is disposed at an acute angle relative to the trailing end edge thereof.
