Abstract:
A method for the formation of a thin optical crystal layer (e. g. , a thin LiNbO optical single crystal layer) overlying a low dielectric constant substrate (e. g. , a low dielectric constant glass substrate). The method includes implanting ions (e. g. , He ) through a surface of an optical crystal substrate. The implanting of the ions defines, in the optical crystal substrate, a thin ion-implanted optical crystal layer overlying a bulk optical crystal substrate. A low dielectric constant substrate is subsequently bonded to the surface, using either a direct or an indirect bonding technique, to form a bonded structure. The bonded structure is thermally annealed at a temperature in the range of 300Â C. to 600Â C. for 30 minutes to 300 minutes.

Abstract:
An all-fiber device platform for producing high-power ROGB or RGB laser output comprises an optical fiber including multiple waveguide gain regions embedded within a common inner cladding and within an outer cladding, an optical cavity defined by dielectric reflectors and/or FBG mirrors, and a pump source for exciting one or more active ionic species by one or multiple pump wavelengths from one or both ends of the optical fiber through upconversion process. An apparatus for producing sequential or simultaneous multiple wavelength laser operation provides for applications of color projection displays and biomedical or other instrumentation.

Abstract:
Solid-state laser(s) pumped by incoherent, monochromatic light from sources such as LED arrays and integrating technologies such as high power LED arrays and solid-state laser materials in conjunction with efficient and uniform absorption of pumping energies through a diffusing pump chamber. The resulting laser(s) are compact, robust, low-cost, and able to produce high power output for practical applications. It may efficiently operate over wide temperature and performance ranges, at CW or pulse modes, even with ultra short pulse width and/or extremely high repetition rates. Our inventive structure(s) is/are highly flexible and applicable to a large group of lasing media including those with very short upper state life times. Advantageously, they may be applied to a plethora of laser systems at wavelengths that have important applications and unavailable to other direct pumping technologies.

Abstract:
A network device is configured to receive a registration message from a private user device including a private internet protocol (IP) address associated with the private user device. A public IP address and discrete port number are assigned to the private user device and private IP address and stored in an incoming call table. The registration message is translated to include the public IP address and discrete port number. The registration message is forwarded to a proxy server for registration. An incoming call invitation message is received from a public user device, where the call invitation message is directed to the public IP address and discrete port number associated with the private user device. The call invitation message is translated to include the private IP address associated with the private user device based on the received public IP address and discrete port number and the incoming call table. The call invitation message is forwarded to the private user device.

Abstract:
A polarization element and a polarization-sensitive optical isolator are integrated to form an integrated VOA. A preferred embodiment uses a liquid crystal cell as the polarization element to which is attached an optical isolator core of a first polarizer, Faraday rotator, and second polarizer. Voltage on the liquid crystal cell electrodes controls the amount of polarized light from the liquid crystal cell passing through the first polarizer and light in the opposite direction is blocked. The integrated VOA can be mounted within a laser device package so that the power of the source laser diode on the output fiber can be controlled and yet the laser diode is protected from light undesirably entering laser device package through the output fiber.

Abstract:
A method for transmitting wireless signals from a plurality of wireless access points (AP) to a train is disclosed in this invention. The method includes a step of connecting a high speed wide-area local area network (WLAN) switch between a network and a multiplexed Ethernet fiber system for receiving and transmitting a plurality of Internet signals to the plurality of wireless access points (AP). The method further includes a step of implementing a wireless signal receiving and distribution system on the train for processing a roaming and handover from receiving the plurality of signals from one of the wireless access point to a next wireless access point. The method further includes a step of distributing the plurality of signals to a plurality of passenger-users traveling on the train.

Abstract:
An optical access system includes a plurality of CWDM converters. A CWDM demux is coupled to at least a portion of the plurality of the CWDM converters. A CWDM mux is coupled to at least a portion of the plurality of the CWDM converters. An optical circulator, or a wideband splitter, is coupled to the demux and the mux by a single fiber. A first CWDM add/drop device is coupled to the optical circulator, or the wideband splitter, and to a first coupler. A first CWDM converter is coupled to the first coupler. A wireless access point is coupled to the CWDM converter.

Abstract:
Improved optical devices, systems, and methods for selectively directing optical signals generally based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Through accurate control of the phase relationship, the Mach-Zehnder interferometer allows optical signals to either be cumulatively combined so as to enhance the transmitted signal strength, or destructively combined so as to effectively prevent transmission from an optical signal port. This phase relationship can be controlled using a nonreciprocal device having a pair of retarder plates disposed along one of the two legs of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer so as to provide an optical isolator or circulator.
