  • US Patent:
    52595218, Nov 9, 1993
  • Filed:
    Oct 4, 1991
  • Appl. No.:
    7/771485
  • Inventors:
Don T. Shaffer - Clayton OH
Emmert A. Milyard - Brookville OH
  • International Classification:
    A47B 4300
  • US Classification:
    211199
  • Abstract:
This invention relates to a portable Tack Rack having sturdy framework construction and to a collapsible equestrian Tack Rack which may be readily assembled and disassembled. The Tack Rack includes two (2) rigid rectangular frames connected such that the frames fold one against the other and unfold such that at least one of the frames sit upright from a support surface. A plurality of extendable members lockably connect to the upright frame such that when extended the members are generally parallel to the support surface, and at least one of the members is adapted to adequately support a saddle placed thereon.

  • US Patent:
    47983957, Jan 17, 1989
  • Filed:
    Aug 18, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/897383
  • Inventors:
Don T. Shaffer - Trotwood OH
    Emmert Milyard - Brookville OH
  • International Classification:
    B62M 114
  • US Classification:
    280240
  • Abstract:
An exercising, recreational and utilitarian apparatus, particularly useful for persons handicapped as to use of their lower limbs or having cardio-pulmonary or ancillary physical problems, comprising a mobile chassis having forward and rearward ends referenced to the normal direction of its motion and mounting a forwardly and upwardly inclined adjustable support having thereon a body rest for mid and upper portions of the body of a user and immediately to the rear thereof an upwardly projecting vertically inclined forwardly facing seat which backs the buttocks of the user and induces the forward inclination of the mid and upper portions of the user's body. Immediately forward of said support, within easy and comfortable reach by the user's hands, is a transversely extending rod-shaped control bar which commonly mounts the controls for driving, steering and braking said apparatus in the course of its travel. Such controls include a pair of relatively rotatable, laterally spaced, hand manipulated levers through the medium of which said apparatus may be driven, immediately of which levers, and within the reach of fingers of hands gripping said levers, are brake controls which can be operated without removing the hands from said levers. At the same time, without removing the hands from the control levers, the rod shaped control bar is rockable about an axis extending longitudinally of said chassis for steering purposes.

  • US Patent:
    46194622, Oct 28, 1986
  • Filed:
    Jun 7, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/618193
  • Inventors:
Don T. Shaffer - Trotwood OH

  • International Classification:
    B62M 114
    B62L 100
    A61H 300
    A63B 2100
  • US Classification:
    280242R
  • Abstract:
Apparatus having particular but not limited use for exercise purposes by persons handicapped as to use of their lower limbs or having cardio-pulmonary or ancillary physical problems comprises a body support adapted to maintain the trunk of the body supported thereby in a substantially dynamic balance leaving the lower limbs or limb of the body to depend free of load from the trunk of the body, the support being limited to maintaining the trunk of the body in an attitude which is other than vertical. In a preferred mobile embodiment the body support has a wheel base and provides a cycle structure. An improved braking system used with the cycle structure is simply controlled through grips illustrated in connection with a handlebar, a slight forward rotation of which achieves a safe braking action with great ease and little exertion or coordination being required. Another invention embodiment is a hand operated propulsion system ideal for those severely handicapped, including paraplegics, hand grips rotating on a steering bar of a cycle structure being linked to a drive wheel and simple limited back and forth motion of the hands and arms bending sufficient to achieve a highly effective propulsive effect.

  • US Patent:
    48300691, May 16, 1989
  • Filed:
    May 16, 1988
  • Appl. No.:
    7/193830
  • Inventors:
    Emmert Milyard - Brookville OH
  • International Classification:
    B27C 900
  • US Classification:
    144 1C
  • Abstract:
A multiple use woodworking machine having a multiplicity of working stations in which different operations can be performed simultaneously, if so desired. This machine is characterized by simplicity, convenience and versatility, providing within the bounds thereof an essentially complete home workshop. A feature of the machine is a main shaft which constitutes its principal moving part. Rotation of this simply constructed shaft is utilized in carrying out a multiplicity of operations including, for example, sawing, surface sanding, drilling, disc sanding and lathe operations. A preferred illustrative embodiment of the disclosed invention, as described, mounts a drum sander to an intermediate portion of the length of the shaft which at the same time mounts to one end thereof a variably positioned saw and connected adjacent its opposite end a drill press which is rotatably adjustable with reference thereto and at its opposite end a selection of adapters providing a variety of tools all of which mount in driven relation to the shaft. Further associated with said opposite end of said shaft is a variably adjustable tool and work rest assembly, which is simply and effectively disposed to provide a highly functional unique aid in working and finishing a variety of products within the limits of the multiple use woodworking machine of which they form a part.
