Hartley was the daughter of James and Eleanor White of Berrow, Somerset, and made her appearance at the Haymarket Theatre under Samuel Foote, probably in 1769 as Imoinda in " Oroonoko ".
She is said in the " Macaroni Magazine " to have been the original of Cosway's ' Venus Victrix....
