Abstract:
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a reproduction method including forming a toner image on a moving primary image-forming member (PIFM) which is a first double-sleeved roller including a rigid cylindrical core member, a replaceable removable compliant inner sleeve member (ISM) in nonadhesive intimate contact with and surrounding the core member, and a replaceable removable photoconductive outer sleeve member (OSM) in nonadhesive intimate contact with and surrounding the ISM; electrostatically transferring the toner image, from the PIFM to a counter-rotating intermediate transfer member (ITM) which is a second double-sleeved roller, in a first transfer nip width produced by a pressure contact between the PIFM and the ITM, an electric field urging the toner image from the PIFM to the ITM, wherein the ITM includes a rigid cylindrical core member, a compliant ISM in nonadhesive intimate contact with and surrounding the core member, and a compliant resistive OSM in nonadhesive intimate contact with and surrounding the ISM.

Abstract:
A double-sleeved roller (DSR) including: a mandrel having a disconnectable end incorporating three termination plates having specified axial profiles; a replaceable inner sleeve member (ISM) mounted on the mandrel; and, a replaceable multilayer outer sleeve member (OSM) including at least one synthetic layer with the OSM surrounding the ISM. The mandrel, adapted to support a non-reinforced ISM, includes the termination plates joined together so as to define two sets of channels for selectively conveying pressurized air to either OSM or ISM for radial expansion thereof. The termination plates have specialized outer shapes, with each termination end plate including a cylindrical portion adjoining a tapered portion. For removal and/or replacement of the OSM or the ISM, a removable support member is moved away from the disconnectable end of the roller while the other end of the roller continues to be supported in cantilever fashion.

Abstract:
A cleaning station for removing particulate material from a moving web in an electrographic printer/copier includes a customer-replaceable web-cleaner device with a support bracket/backup shoe assembly. A quick disconnect feature enables the cleaner cover to be de-coupled from the cleaner body to allow the debris to be easily removed with replacing the web-cleaner. The cleaner has a cleaner sump that is spring loaded to force contact of four strategically placed stops in the sump with a stationary back up shoe assembly allowing for higher precision of blade engagement with a transport web or a photoconductor. The web-cleaner has two wiper blades that are locked into the cleaner sump by springs, to facilitate dumping of material removed from the web without removing the cleaning blades. The sump has baffles molded into the sump to eliminate extra parts and has several features that enable easy attachment of the cleaning blades, a permanently attached foam seal around the perimeter of the cover and sump interface. The wiper cleaning blades and the cover assembly are easily replaceable by the operator.

Abstract:
A printer having a developer station for holding a supply of developer which includes magnetized carrier particles, a magnetized development roller, and an imaging roller proximate the development roller which collects carrier particles during operation of the printer. A scavenger proximate the imaging roller and the development roller removes the carrier particles from the imaging roller during operation of the printer which are then urged through a slot in the scavenger by the magnetized development roller.
A method of making a slotted scavenger wherein a rigid sheet is used as a starting material. A slot is formed through the sheet having horizontally angled sidewalls such that an opening of the slot on a first major surface of the sheet is smaller than an opening of the slot in a second major surface of the sheet. Modifications of the method include using a rotating cutting tool for cutting through the sheet to form slots.
