Abstract:
A two dimensional touch sensor panel can be thermoformed or curved by another process to a three-dimensional touch sensor panel, and the three-dimensional touch sensor panel can be laminated to a three-dimension surface having a highly curved or spherical shape. In some examples, thermoforming a two-dimensional touch sensor panel into a three-dimensional touch sensor panel can result in strain of the touch electrodes, and can result in non-uniform three-dimensional touch electrodes (distortion of the two-dimensional touch electrode pattern). The strain can be a function of the curved touch-sensitive surface and/or process related mechanical strain from thermoforming. In some examples, a three-dimensional touch sensor panel can be formed with uniform area touch electrodes using a two-dimensional touch sensor panel pattern with non-uniform area touch electrodes in accordance with the strain pattern expected for a given curved surface and thermoforming technique.

A liquid crystal display may have main column spacers and subspacer column spacers. The column spacers may have cross shapes formed from overlapping perpendicular rectangular column spacer portions respectively located on a color filter layer and a thin-film transistor layer. The column spacers may have a hybrid configuration in which some of the rectangular portions on the thin-film transistor layer extend vertically and some extend horizontally. Column spacers may be formed from planarization layer material, may be formed from locally thickened portions of a planarization layer, and may have circular shapes.

Abstract:
A display may have a color filter layer and a thin-film transistor layer. A liquid crystal layer may be interposed between the color filter layer and the thin-film transistor layer. Column spacer structures may be used to maintain a desired gap for the liquid crystal layer between the color filter layer and the thin-film transistor layer. The column spacer structures may include column spacers having bases and opposing tips. The tips may penetrate into the liquid crystal layer and may bear against the thin-film transistor layer or aligned column spacer pads on the thin-film transistor layer. The color filter layer may have a glass substrate, a black matrix on the substrate, a color filter element layer on the black matrix, and an overcoat on the color filter element layer. Some or all of the column spacers may have bases that contact the black matrix layer.
