Abstract:

Input texts, e.g., electronic text files containing a written work, are received by the invention. Selected visual characteristics of text, such as such as font case, font type, font size, font color, word spacing, and line spacing, are automatically applied to the text and are varied within the text to produce enhanced text. The variation may occur as frequently as character to character, or word to word, sentence to sentence, line to line, paragraph to paragraph, or some other frequency. The resulting enhanced text is visually different from the received text (provided the applied variations are not already present in the received text). The enhanced text is then visually displayed to a reader, as by providing it on a computer monitor or in printed form. The enhanced text, having more visible variety than the received text, is believed to result in greater reading speed, comprehension, and/or interest in people having certain types of reading deficiencies.

Abstract:

An improved threaded fastener is provided with a shank, a head connected to the shank, and a thread form on the shank terminating below the head. A plurality of lugs are provided above at least a portion of the thread form and are circumferentially disposed under the fastener head around the shank seriatim from a first lug to a last lug. Each lug defines an exposed engaging margin extending from the fastener shank at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the fastener. The maximum radial dimension of each lug progressively increases from the first lug to the last lug while a corresponding maximum axial dimension of each lug progressively decreases whereby the acute angle becomes progressively greater.

Abstract:

An angiogram is produced using NMR fast pulse sequences in which the views are acquired in shots preceded by a preparatory pulse sequence. Each shot is acquired twice with differing preparatory pulse sequences and the resulting NMR data is subtracted to null the stationary tissues in the reconstructed image.

Abstract:

Automatic sandwiching machine for cookies and the like. The cookies having design impressed on one side thereof are conveyed through an oven in rows with the design sides facing upwardly and the opposite or plain sides facing the oven conveyor. At least two side-by-side rows are up-ended and stacked one behind the other and conveyed to adjacent magazines with the sides with the design facing upwardly. The rows of cookies are flared as they leave the oven with four rows of cookies in each group of flared rows and are conveyed to separate magaines design side up. One magazine is spaced in advance of the other. The magazines drop the cookies on a conveyor where the advance cookies are positioned to be deposited on creme deposited on trailing or upstream cookies. One upstream magazine is spaced ahead of the other. In order that both sides of the formed sandwich have designs on each side, the upstream cookies are turned over mechanically by a turn-over wheel, which guides and drops the cookies design side down and plain side up onto conventional parallel spaced wires along which the cookies are carried by conveyor flights on endless chains extending beneath the cookies in the advance magazine, which are design side up.

Abstract:

A sandwiching machine for applying creme, for example, a chocolate or vanilla flavored filling, jelly, peanut butter or the like, to at least two laterally spaced rows of cookies traveling along said sandwiching machine. The sandwiching machine includes improved stencil means for applying creme to the cookies in a uniform manner comprising a stencil sleeve and a stencil rotatable thereon, the stencil having spaced apart discharge orifices and the stencil sleeve having inlets at each side of the discharge orifices, valve means within the stencil sleeve for controlling the flow of creme through the discharge orifices, and creme hopper means communicating with the stencil sleeve inlets. The creme hopper means in one embodiment includes a single hopper for supplying the same creme to each stencil sleeve inlet. Alternatively, the creme hopper means may comprise a compartmented hopper or separate hoppers for supplying either the same or different cremes to the stencil sleeve inlets for uniform discharge from the stencil orifices.

Abstract:

A magnetic resonance angiogram is produced by projecting a 3D array of motion sensitized NMR data. A mask which locates the vessels in the 3D array is produced by thresholding the NMR data, and this mask is combined with the 3D NMR data set to exclude signals produced by surrounding stationary tissues. An integration projection technique is used to produce the angiogram from the masked data set.

Abstract:

An ink feeding system for feeding ink to an ink fountain of a printing, duplicating or like machine includes a can holder for holding a can of printing ink. A support arm suspends the can holder and can above the ink fountain. A piston-and-cylinder device feeds ink from the suspended can through a hole in the closed bottom end of the can and into the ink fountain. A disposable gasket is placed on top of the ink in the can for engagement by a piston head of the piston-and-cylinder device.

Abstract:

A 3D relief effect is created on a ceramic tile with an inkjet printer and an inkjet print head by printing a relief pattern with an effect ink having a low surface tension on the ceramic tile. The inkjet printer and inkjet print head apply an aqueous glaze slurry having a high surface tension on top of the effect ink. An image is printed on the glaze and the tile is fired. A difference in surface tensions causes the aqueous glaze to move away from the printed effect ink, resulting in a relief pattern in the image at locations of the printed relief pattern.
