Abstract:

The present invention relates to petroleum recovery operations, and more particularly, to the use of pulse technology to enhance the effectiveness of waterflooding operations. The systems of the present invention generally comprise an injection means for continually injecting a fluid into the subterranean formation, and a pressure pulsing means for periodically applying a pressure pulse having a given amplitude and frequency to the fluid while the fluid is being injected into the subterranean formation.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a low cost method and apparatus for fracturing a subterranean formation. The invention involves using a centrifugal pump to combine a fracture fluid, a sand suspension and liquid additive and discharge a mixture of these components into a high pressure pump that injects the mixture into the subterranean formation. The apparatus employs a control pinch valve to precisely control the amount of sand suspension being added to the mixture. The apparatus eliminates the need for expensive blenders, other equipment and associated personnel and provides a low cost means of fracturing the subterranean formation.

Methods of using invertible oil external-water internal emulsions in drilling, hydraulic fracturing, gravel packing and completion and then inverting the emulsion to a water external-oil internal emulsion are provided. The methods basically comprise the steps of contacting the oil external-water internal emulsion with an aqueous acid solution containing an anionic sulfonate surfactant for preventing aqueous acid solution-crude oil emulsions and crude oil sludging and a chemical for preventing the anionic sulfonate surfactant from reacting with the emulsifier in the oil external-water internal emulsion.

Abstract:

A system for facilitating exchange of user information and opinion using automated collaborative filtering includes memory elements for storing item profiles and user profiles. The data contained in those profiles is used to calculate a number of similarity factors representing how closely the preferences of one user correlate with another. The similarity factors are evaluated to select a set of neighboring users for each user which represents the set of users which most closely correlate with a particular user. The system assigns a weight to each one of the neighboring users. The system uses the ratings given to items by those neighboring users to recommend an item to a user. The system may be distributed, i. e. the system may include a number of nodes connected to a central server. The central server includes a memory element for storing user profile data and the nodes may be the type of system described above.
