Abstract:
A method and apparatus for finishing a surface of a vehicle part. A laser surface finishing means includes a finishing laser and at least one surface topography sensor. A first sensor scans each footprint of the surface and measures the footprint height. Each footprint height is compared to a reference height for that footprint area. If the footprint height is above the reference height, the laser generates a beam to either remove or cause reflow of a predetermined amount of material from the high points. These steps are repeated in a predetermined scanning pattern until each footprint height is not above the reference height for that footprint. In one aspect, a second sensor scans each footprint of the surface after the laser operates or not, and the height measured by the second sensor is used to determine if the steps need to be repeated.

Abstract:
A door protector module includes a unitarily constructed inner belt weatherstrip, a shield and a lower door seal which are attachable as a one piece assembly to a vehicle door inner trim panel or the inner door panel. The inner belt weatherstrip, the shield and the lower door shield are formed with complimentary adjoining shapes for affixing the inner belt weatherstrip, the shield and the lower door shield into a unitary structure by snaps, fasteners, adhesive, etc.

Abstract:
An electrocoagulation process for removing organic and metal contaminants from a pressurized waste fluid is disclosed in which a clarified waste fluid is produced when the pressure is released.
High Pressure Process And Apparatus For The Electrocoagulative Treatment Of Aqueous And Viscous Fluids
A method and apparatus for the high-pressure electrocoagulative treatment of aqueous and viscous fluids and sludge is provided. The apparatus includes a plate and frame design utilizing mechanical closure on a plurality of recessed, gasketed, non-electrically conductive electrocoagulation spacer plates that completely enclose and isolate all fluids, electrical contacts, and electrodes within the confines of the apparatus. The spacer plates include intergral supports that position and support said plates with enclosed electrodes on top of the side rails of the supporting frame of the apparatus allowing said plates to be separated for electrode replacement and maintenance and conversly closed, pressured and put into service. The apparatus includes a baffled influent and effluent chamber at both ends for the addition and flash mixing of chemical reagents and/or flocculants and to provide a means of fluid communication between fluid conduits and chambers formed within the apparatus.

Abstract:
A vehicle trim panel is secured to a vehicle structural panel by providing a vehicle trim fastener having spaced arms which embrace and overlie the legs on a mount which is seated over the edge of a vehicle structural panel. The embracing arms and corresponding legs prevent lateral shifting of the trim panel relative to the structural panel.
A baffle apparatus mountable in a hollow structural member includes first and second sealed containers, each containing a separate reactive component. The first and second containers are formed of complementary melting point materials so as to melt and allow the reactive components to mix and react when the thermal energy is applied to the structural member. The reactive components form an expanded volume foam mass substantially filling, sealing, and/or reinforcing the cross section of the structural member.

Abstract:
A tool and method applies a cover to an item receiving face. A base plate has an item receiving surface. A moveable lower plate has a die bore corresponding to the cover receiving surface of the item and a receiving surface for a laminate cover material having an adhesive layer and a decorative base layer. An upper plate includes a channel corresponding with the lower plate die and a punch secured within the upper plate channel and slideably engageable within the die. The punch has a centrally located bore and cutting edge. A compressible member disposed within the punch bore has a curvolinear free end. The upper plate is displaced towards the lower plate in a closed state to slidingly engage the punch within the die and the punch cutting edge punches out the cover while the compressible member presses the cut cover onto the item receiving face.

Abstract:
A shoe seal for sealing the space between a floating roof and the inner wall of an oil storage tank includes a plurality of scissors hanger assemblies for movably mounting a shoe on the floating roof. Each scissors hanger assembly includes an elongated plate suspended from a shoe clip bolted to the shoe and pivotally coupled to an opposite pair of elongated bars suspended from a rim clip bolted to the outer rim of the floating roof. In a first embodiment, the shoe is resiliently biased into contact with the inner tank wall by pusher bars bolted to the shoe and having resilient legs extending into contact with the floating roof, and pusher plates bolted to the roof and having a resilient leg extending into contact with the shoe. In a second embodiment, only the pusher bars are used and they are mounted on the rim clips bolted to the floating roof so that the opposite resilient legs thereof extend into contact with the shoe. A vapor barrier fabric extends between and is joined to the shoe and to the floating roof to complete the shoe seal.
