Involved in recreation and the outdoors most of his life, McKnight became a seasonal firefighter at age 16 with the California Division of Forestry, was an international youth leader with the Exploring Division of Scouting (where he received a scholarship from Ian Player's International Wilderness Leadership School in South Africa), was a senior marketing executive with the world's largest RV company and is now COO of Leisure Interactive, which operates the largest online reservation and property management system for campgrounds and marinas in North America. He is married to an incredible woman, Chris, has two great (now adult!) kids, Joshua and Kaitlin, and a small menagerie of pets (including Fred, a registered California Desert Tortoise on the threatened and endangered species list).
