Abstract:

The invention is a method and system for compressing a current value into a minimum number of bits for transmission from a compressor to a decompressor. A method in accordance with the invention includes maintaining a series of at least one previous value at the compressor, each previous value having different k least significant bits and which have been transmitted to the decompressor; determining a value of k representing a smallest number of bits which allows successful decompression of the current value at the decompressor using as a reference value any value in the series of at least one previous value; and transmitting the current value from the compressor to the decompressor in compressed form with the k least significant bits of the current value.

Abstract:

A method used for communicating packets or other information units from a server () to a client () over a communication path including a packet scheduler (-) followed by a bottleneck path (-), with the packet scheduler (-) having a buffer for holding packets so as not to transmit over the bottleneck path (-) at a rate either too high or too low, the method providing that the server () communicate to the client () sender information indicating the last packet sent to the client () by the server () and do so via a mechanism by which the sender information is communicated over the bottleneck path (-) ahead of substantially all packets already in the buffer. The client () then uses the sender information to provide, as needed, information useful in adapting the rate at which the packets arrive at the packet scheduler (-).

The invention relates to a method for packet switched streaming of media, such as video and/or audio, from a streaming server () to a mobile client device () over an air-interface. A method, system, device, and computer code product is disclosed in which a sender transmits data to a plurality of receivers via a point-to-multipoint session. The receiver sends data repair requests to the sender requesting data expected but not received and the sender retransmits the expected but not received data via the point-to-multipoint session. Abstract:

In a multimedia streaming network where a client has a receiver buffer to store a plurality of packets received from a server so as to compensate for the difference between data transmission amount by the server and data usage amount by the client, the server should be able to adapt the data transmission rate based on the status of the receiver buffer. For rate adaptation purposes, server reconstructs a list of packets in the receiver buffer based on information provided by the client. The information signaled to the server is indicative of the next packet to be decoded in the client. The information can be the sequence number of the next packet to be decoded, the DON number of the next NAL unit to be decoded, or the sequence number of the packet carrying the next NAL unit to be decoded and the DON indicative of the decoding order of that next NAL unit.

Abstract:

A method for the client in a multimedia streaming network to control the receiver buffer fullness by way of effectively shifting the transmission clock in the server who provides streaming data to the client. In order to avoid buffer underflow or overflow, the client sends a message to the server requesting the shift of the transmission clock either forward or backward depending on whether the client wants to increase or decrease the receiver buffer. Based on the message, the server adjusts the data transmission amount by effectively shifting its transmission clock. The request from the client can be sent through RTCP or RTSP.
