Abstract:

A replaceable developer roller apparatus is disclosed for a printing device. The apparatus includes a cylindrical developer roller having two opposed ends, and a drive assembly selectively and operatively engageable with one of the opposed ends of the developer roller. The drive assembly includes a shaft having two opposed regions; a gear rotationally fixed to one of the opposed regions of the shaft; and a drive member rotationally fixed to the other of the opposed regions of the shaft, and selectively, axially moveable between an engagement position and a disengagement position. A spindle assembly is engageable with the other of the opposed ends of the developer roller. The spindle assembly includes a spindle assembly shaft and an alignment member rotationally fixed to the spindle assembly shaft.

Abstract:

An embodiment includes developing unit having a first developer roller and a second developer roller in contact with the first developer roller. The first developer roller is adapted to transfer developed liquid developer to the second developer roller, and the second developer roller is adapted to transfer the developed liquid developer to a photoconductor. An electrode is separated from the first developer roller by a gap. The gap is configured to receive undeveloped liquid developer from a reservoir remote from the developing unit so that the first developer roller does not pass through undeveloped liquid developer contained in a reservoir within the developing unit.

A developer unit usable with a liquid electrophotographic printing apparatus having a photosensitive drum includes a developer roller configured to receive ink, and to selectively engage and rotatably transfer the ink to the photosensitive drum, the developer roller configured to switch between a contact mode when the developer roller is rotating and a non-contact mode when the developer roller is not rotating, a squeegee roller selectively in contact with the developer roller, the squeegee roller configured to at least condense the received ink on the developer roller in the contact mode, and configured to be apart from the developer roller in the non-contact mode, and a cleaner roller selectively in contact with the developer roller, the cleaner roller configured to remove remaining ink from the developer roller not transferred to the photosensitive drum in the contact mode, and to be apart from the developer roller in the non-contact mode, wherein at least one of the squeegee roller, the cleaner roller and the developer roller are configured to move between the contact mode and the non-contact mode in response to a rotational state of the developer roller.

Abstract:

Apparatus and methods are provided. A supply of ink within a flexible bag is located apart from a printer. A fluid conduit couples the supply of ink to the printer by way of a connecting head. The connecting head includes a pump driven by a mechanical actuator of the printer. Operation of the pump causes a flow of ink from the flexible bag to a printhead of the printer. Pump failure is detected and interpreted as an out-of-ink condition, and user notification and/or cessation of printing operations are automatically performed.

Abstract:

An apparatus to receive a developer roller for a printing device. The apparatus comprises a base assembly including end caps at opposing ends. The base assembly includes a receptacle for a developer roller having rotary bearings. Each end cap includes first and second datum pins and a clamp containing a spring member. Each clamp, when locked in place in part by action of the spring member, is to push against a corresponding rotary bearing when the developer roller is installed in the base assembly. The rotary bearing being forced by the clamp into contact with the first and second datum pins to position the developer roller in the base assembly.
