Abstract:

A system for collecting database object statistics by a database management system selects one or more objects and corresponding one or more object fields and then creates a base set of statistics for the selected object fields. The system further reads active log records and updates the base set of statistics when a change is read in the active log records. Finally, the system begins extracting log records when an end-of-file of the active log records is reached, and updates the updated statistics based on the extracted log records.

Abstract:

A system for extracting index key data fields is provided. The system includes a definition interrogator that extracts index definitions and column definitions from a database. The system also includes a code generator that is connected to the definition interrogator. The code generator builds computer code for extracting index key data fields based upon the index definitions and the column definitions. A table analyzer is connected to the code generator and uses the computer code to extract index data from a data table.

Abstract:

A system and method for recovering a database table that depends on a tablespace receives a backup copy of the tablespace and reads log records associated with the table. The system then applies the log records to the backup copy and builds new table data pages from the backup copy. Finally, the system scans the new table data pages for records of the first table and updates the table from the records.

Abstract:

Techniques to update/change a database without incurring a user outage include receiving a user-specified change command which is then evaluated to determine which portion(s) of the target database will change as a result of the command. Shadow copies of those portions are then created and updated in accordance with the change command. The change command is next applied against the target database and any portion(s) placed in a restricted status because of this action are reset to an un-restricted state. The updated shadow portion(s) are then swapped for the corresponding portion(s) of the target database.

A method of mirroring log data in real time. The method can be used to mirror all log data from a source database or only that log data pertaining to a subset of objects in the source database. The log data is written to one or more datasets which are created and stored in a target database system which is typically remotely located. The log datasets in the target system can be used for disaster recovery of the source system. The method monitors log data from the source system and automatically updates target log datasets accordingly.
