An apparatus and a system to teach a user a subject based on his questions. The system allows the user to control his learning process, and helps to fill in gaps of misunderstanding in the subject. In one embodiment, the system, including a database, presents study materials on the subject to the user. After working on the presented materials, the user enters his question into the system, which generates an answer to the question, and presents it to him. Then the system compares the question with one or more questions previously entered by the user to determine his understanding level in the subject. Based on the determination, the system may present to the user appropriate study materials. The user typically asks more than one question, and the process of answering his question by the system repeats.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A computer-aided learning method and apparatus for a learning user to learn materials inexpensively. Not only does the apparatus provide the user the freedom as to where and when to learn, and the guidance as to what to learn, the apparatus also reduces a significant hurdle to learningâTuition. The apparatus retrieves a user identifier entered by the user, and determines whether the user is a learning user or an institute user. If the user is a learning user, the apparatus allows the user to access information regarding learning materials. If the user is an institute user, the apparatus permits the user to access information regarding at least one learning user. The institute user might be interested to use the apparatus to recruit employees to fill job openings. A learning user pays significantly less than an institute user to access information, so as to encourage the learning user to work on learning materials. The apparatus can also track and update information regarding the users.

Abstract:
Providing methods and systems to quickly and accurately respond to a natural-language question. The responses to the question can depend on additional information about the user asking the question, and the subject matter of the question the user asked. For example, the system knows that the user understands French, and can supply French answers to the user. Such additional information can improve on relevancy of the responses to the question. More than one responses can be provided to the user to allow the user to pick the more appropriate one. One embodiment uses a computer with a database having many phrases and question formats. The computer identifies phrases in the question based on at least one grammatical rules and phrases in the database. Then the computer links the phrases to categories based on at least one semantic rule, the subject matter of the question, and information about the user, such as previous questions asked by the user. The computer then selects at least two question formats based on at least the scores.

Information Processing For Searching Categorizing Information In A Document Based On A Categorization Hierarchy And Extracted Phrases

International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707 5, 707 3, 707500, 704 9
Abstract:
Processing automatically information in a document to be incorporated into databases to be searched, retrieved and learned. This would significantly enhance categorizing information in the domain so that information can be systematically and efficiently retrieved when needed. In one approach, first, the context or the domain of the document is determined. Then, domain-specific phrases in the document are automatically extracted based on grammar and dictionaries. From these phrases, categories in a category hierarchy are identified, and the document is linked to those categories. Phrases in the document that cannot be categorized are identified to be analyzed. If these new phrases are relevant, new categories may be created based on suggestions provided to categorize them. Later when a user asks a question that is related to the categorized phrases, the corresponding categories are identified, with the document retrieved to respond to the question. In one approach, the question is in natural-language.

Nokia Intelligent Edge Routers Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and a system for managing a TCAM table are disclosed. A new route is inserted into the TCAM table at an available location using an index. The new route is added into a Patricia tree organized by a mask length associated with the new route. Routes having common prefixes with the new route are searched for in Patricia trees organized by longer mask lengths and in Patricia trees organized by shorter mask lengths to locate a chain for the new route. The chain for the new route groups routes having common prefixes. The routes in the chain are sequenced in an order of longer prefix first such that a route at a top of the chain has a longest prefix. A swap of routes in the chain is performed to accommodate the new route and to maintain the longer prefix first order.
