Abstract:

A patient-support apparatus comprises an overhead arm located over a patient support and a mounting assembly coupled to the overhead arm. The mounting assembly has an alignment mechanism and a drive assembly. The drive assembly moves the alignment mechanism and the overhead arm relative to the patient support. The alignment mechanism may be configured to permit adjustment of the overhead arm without movement of the drive assembly. A radiant heater may be coupled to the overhead arm.

An infant care apparatus includes a base, a patient-support portion carried by the base, a canopy situated above the patient-support portion, and a mechanism for vertically raising and lowering the canopy relative to the patient-support portion. A convective heating system is operable to provide heated air into a space defined between the patient-support portion and the canopy. A radiant heater is coupled to the canopy and is operable to direct radiant heat toward the patient-support portion. A control system controls the operation of the convective heating system and the radiant heater.

Abstract:

A patient-support assembly includes a patient support having a platform tub and a platform cover. The platform tub includes first and second walls defining an air flow channel. The platform cover is mounted to the platform tub to cover the channel. An elongated vent rail on the platform cover extends into the air flow channel and an elongated vent panel is pivotably coupled to the platform cover. The vent rail includes a plurality of vent channels separated by abutment surfaces. The vent channels communicate with respective air vent slots. The vent panel is pivotable between a first position abutting the abutment surfaces and a second position moved away from the vent rail to provide increased access to the vent channels. The platform cover includes air vent slots. The assembly also includes a side guard panel having first and second spaced-apart surfaces. The side guard panel includes a window in the side guard panel. The side guard panel includes an access port. A grommet including a plurality of flexible flaps engages an inner edge of the window. An access door assembly includes a mounting block, a door panel, and a lever with a locking member. The mounting block is coupled to the side guard panel. The door panel has a first end pivotably coupled to the mounting block and a second end. The doorpanel is movable between aposition closing the access port and aposition spaced apart from the side guard panel so that the access port is opened. The lever has a first end pivotably coupled to the mounting block and a second end. The lever is movable between a locking position and an unlocking position.

A radiant heater apparatus includes a heating element which generates radiant energy. The heating element has first and second terminals. The apparatus also includes an inner tube configured to surround the heating element. The inner tube includes first and second ends. The inner tube is substantially transmissive to radiant energy. The apparatus further includes an outer tube surrounding the inner tube. The outer tube has an inner surface, an outer surface, and first and second ends. The inner surface of the outer tube is absorptive to radiant energy, and the outer surface of the outer tube is emissive to radiant energy so that radiant energy from the heating element passing through the inner tube is absorbed and re-emitted from by outer tube.

Abstract:

A patient support system having an environmentally controlled area over the patient including a frame with a patient support thereon and a moveable canopy thereover. The support is generally rectangular and is provided with a vertical fluid curtain at its perimeter on each of its four sides. The four vertical curtains are deflected inwardly by the canopy to provide the environmentally controlled area over the patient and with a fluid return to the perimeter to provide a closed fluid path. The air curtains can be heated and/or have water vapor added thereto. An infrared heater is provided in the canopy for a second source of heat. An integrated control system is also provided.
