Abstract:
Enhanced multimedia content on physical media interacts with the user through a media player and the Internet. Enhanced multimedia utilizes IDs for pieces of content on the media and a media key block. On the enhanced media is a file with a list of URLs. As the enhanced media plays a title requiring an external permission for decryption, the media player accesses the URL for that title and obtains the permission. The permission may be purchased or provided for free. Secure encryption and transmission of permission is accomplished by broadcast encryption using a media key block. Each media has a unique set of keys that allow the media player to process the media key block; however, each media follows a unique path through the media key block. All legitimate media players obtain the media key; circumvention devices cannot decipher the media key block.

Abstract:
A system and method described herein provide stereoscopic video using standard DVD video data combined with enhancement data. In various embodiments, the enhancement data may be stored on the same DVD as the standard video, or provided via downloading and/or streaming to a stereoscopic DVD player. When stored on the DVD, the enhancement data is provided in various forms, including MPEG (-1 or -2) program Stream level; or the MPEG elementary stream level. In one embodiment, the enhancement data consists of a difference signal between left- and right-eye images taken on a pixel-by-pixel basis.

Abstract:
Seamless navigation is provided between high-definition audio-video content configured for use with a media player application, and an executable video game packaged with the audio-video content on a digital medium. An API module is distributed to player/consoles. An application provided with the high-definition audio-video content detects the presence of the API module on the player device. In response to detecting the API module, the application provides an interactive feature that uses the API module to load and execute the executable video game in response to user input.

Abstract:
A method for playing an interactive game uses a DVD-Video player, a display device, and appointing device. The DVD player plays a first video segment, that includes an animated element moving through different regions of the video display. The DVD player receives pointing input from the pointing device, causing a corresponding region of the display to become active. A user may send an interruption command to the DVD player. Play of the first segment may continue until an interruption command is received when the animated element is in an active region of the video display. When this occurs, the DVD player interrupts the first video segment and plays a second segment. The method may be repeated for successive levels of game play.
Method Of Providing Copy Protection For Optical Storage Media
Disc burner software is known that generates only a second generation disc from an original or first generation disc by adding to the second generation a copy protection indication. According to the present invention, an original disc includes normal program files, and in addition, also includes the copy protection indication. When an attempt is made to copy such a disc using the disc burner software, the software will not make a second generation copy because it will mistakenly identify the original disc as a copy.
A disc burner receives a disc to be copied and checks whether it is an original disc or a recordable disc. If it is an original disc, its contents are copied with a copy protection indication. If it is a recordable disc, a check is performed to determine if it has a copy protection indication and copying is performed only if allowed by said copy protection indication.
