Abstract:

Oxygen-enhanced combustion in a manufacturing plant using a nitrogen plant to obtain a nitrogen product stream for use in the plant is effected by utilizing the oxygen-rich vent, waste, or exhaust stream as the primary source of oxidant for combustion of fuel in burners used to heat furnaces and the like in the same plant. Processes according to the invention employ a vent stream in place of a high purity oxygen stream for oxy-fuel combustion, oxygen lancing, and oxygen boosting.

Abstract:

A process and apparatus are described for recycling dust generated in rotary kiln processes such as cement manufacture. The invention resides in enriching the atmosphere in the kiln with oxygen so as to increase the heat generated and accommodate the introduction of recycled kiln dust. The oxygen enrichment and dust recycle are balanced so that the kiln operates to produce the same quality product as it did without either oxygen enrichment or dust recycle.

Abstract:

Method and apparatus for reducing NOx production during air-oxygen-fuel combustion by providing a central core of fuel surrounded by a sheath of oxygen at a combustion end of an air-oxygen-fuel burner. Diametrically opposed air passages are provided on either side of the oxygen sheath to permit entrainment of furnace gases into a flame zone created by primary combustion of fuel and oxygen. Oxygen can be introduced into each air passage to enhance combustion with low NOx emissions.
