Abstract:
Flexible prosthetic implants for repairing, replacing or augmenting hard tissue or bone. The flexible implant comprises a plurality of segments that are connected by flexible retainers which enable the segments to be re-oriented in relation to one another to accommodate the contour, size and shape of the body part being treated. A method for making such flexible prosthetic implants is also disclosed.

Abstract:
The invention relates to an apparatus and method for stabilization of a shunt relative to a bone. The apparatus includes a body member and a plurality of attachment members forming a part of the body member. Each of the attachment members are operable to receive a bone screw so as to secure the body member to the bone. A plurality of movable fingers are movably attached to the body member. The plurality of movable fingers are adapted to engage and stabilize various size shunts relative to the bone.
Method For Promoting Hard Tissue Growth And Repair In Mammals
Barry L. Eppley - Indianapolis IN Marilyn D. Krukowski - St. Louis MO Philip A. Osdoby - Ballwin MO
International Classification:
A61F 228
US Classification:

Abstract:
A material with chemically induced surface charges is employed to foster formation of mammalian hard and soft connective tissues. The material may be in the form of beads such as ion exchange resins. Bead materials with a negative surface charge stimulate formation of hard tissue within long bones and foster bony repair of defects in parietal bones and in mandibular rami. Beads with positively charged surfaces engender formation of large quantities of soft dense connective tissue when implanted into defects in the cranium or when used as an onlay on the nasal bone surface. The use of such beads or other charged biodegradable materials and the use of other surface charged materials with different physical configurations provides significant improvement in hard and soft connective tissue repair, augmentation and replacement in medical fields such as orthopaedic and maxillofacial surgery.

Implant Filler Materials And Methods Comprising Nonionic Surfactants
Advanced Research and Technology Institute, Inc. - Indianapolis IN
International Classification:
A61F 212 A61F 204 A61K 4700
US Classification:
623 8
Abstract:
Compositions and methods are disclosed for filling prostheses for implantation into human soft tissue. The compositions comprise at least one nonionic surfactant, such as a polysorbate, which can be provided to fill a physiologically compatible shell or containment sac of the prosthesis. The liquid compositions of the present invention have a relatively high viscosity and are quickly absorbed from body tissues, metabolized and excreted with no known adverse effect. The compositions can be injected into the physiologically compatible shell either before, during or after the surgical implantation procedure.
