  • US Patent:
    7243748, Jul 17, 2007
  • Filed:
    Jan 4, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/029237
  • Inventors:
Arun Kumar Seksaria - Cedar Falls IA, US
Mervin Peter Kizlyk - Cedar Falls IA, US
Robert Eugene Kasten - Denver CO, US
  • Assignee:
Deere & Company - Moline IL
  • International Classification:
    B60W 20/00
  • US Classification:
    180 653, 180 658, 903941, 903942
  • Abstract:
A vehicle electric drive system has an internal combustion engine which drives an electric generator. The generator powers a motor which drives the wheels. The system has operator controls including a speed control member movable from a zero speed position to a high speed position, an FNR direction control member having forward, neutral and reverse positions. The system also includes a wheel speed sensor and an electronic control unit. Upon startup, the control unit senses the position of the direction control member, senses wheel speed, and senses position of the speed control member. The controller prevents vehicle operation if the direction control member is not in its neutral position, or the sensed wheel speed is not close to zero, or the speed control member is not near its zero speed position. The controller permits vehicle operation if the direction control member is in its neutral position, and the sensed wheel speed is close to zero, and the speed control member is near its zero speed position.
  • Steering Compensated Speed Override For Vehicle Drive System

  • US Patent:
    7386382, Jun 10, 2008
  • Filed:
    Jan 9, 2006
  • Appl. No.:
    11/328013
  • Inventors:
Arun Kumar Seksaria - Cedar Falls IA, US
Mervin Peter Kizlyk - Cedar Falls IA, US
Robert Eugene Kasten - Denver CO, US
  • Assignee:
Deere & Company - Moline IL
  • International Classification:
    G06F 19/00
    B60T 7/12
    B60W 10/04
  • US Classification:
    701 51, 701 50, 701 53, 701 54, 701 87, 180170, 180248, 56 102 R, 477107
  • Abstract:
A method of controlling a vehicle drive system is provided for a vehicle having an internal combustion engine, free-wheeling steerable front wheels, driven rear wheels, an infinitely variable transmission (IVT) transmitting torque from the engine to the rear wheels, and a control unit for controlling the IVT as a function of sensed parameters and supplying a speed command to the IVT for commanding a speed of the rear wheels. The method includes sensing a steering angle of the front wheels, sensing a front wheel speed, sensing a rear wheel speed, generating a corrected estimated vehicle speed as a function of the front wheel speed and the sensed steering angle, and increasing the speed command in response to a comparison between the corrected estimated vehicle speed and the rear wheel speed. The infinitely variable transmission is preferably embodied by a hybrid electric drive system. The estimated vehicle speed value is determined as a function of a gear ratio of a rear wheel drive, the front wheel speed, a rolling radius of the front wheel, a rolling radius of the rear wheel, and the steering angle of the steerable front wheels.
  • Brake Responsive Vehicle Electric Drive System

  • US Patent:
    7466091, Dec 16, 2008
  • Filed:
    Feb 9, 2007
  • Appl. No.:
    11/673275
  • Inventors:
Arun Kumar Seksaria - Cedar Falls IA, US
Mervin Peter Kizlyk - Cedar Falls IA, US
Robert Eugene Kasten - Denver CO, US
  • Assignee:
Deere & Company - Moline IL
  • International Classification:
    H02P 3/00
  • US Classification:
    318375, 318362, 318273, 318703, 31840001, 180 651, 180 652, 180 653
  • Abstract:
The invention relates to a vehicle electric drive system. There is a need for a brake responsive vehicle electric drive system. A vehicle electric drive system includes an internal combustion engine, an electric motor/generator driven by the engine, and drive wheels driven by a traction motor/generator. The motor/generators are controlled by a control system which receives signals from an operator speed control member, wheel speed sensors, and a pair of brake pedal position sensors, each connected to a corresponding left or right brake pedal. In response to operation of the brake pedals, the controller coordinates operation of the electric drive system with operation of the brake pedals.
  • Multi Function Single Lever Control For Lift Trucks

    view source
  • US Patent:
    61126128, Sep 5, 2000
  • Filed:
    Oct 16, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/543734
  • Inventors:
Arun K. Seksaria - Lexington KY
William C. Jones - Rushville IN
  • Assignee:
Clark Material Handling Company - Lexington KY
  • International Classification:
    G05G 1300
  • US Classification:
    74471XY
  • Abstract:
A single lever hand control for multiple functions having two distinct axes of movement. In the case of a stand-up, battery powered lift truck having a mast, a carriage with forks raised and lowered on the mast, and the forks side shifted on the carriage, which also can be tilted from vertical, forward or back, the operator stands facing to the side with reference to the direction of travel of the truck. Movement of the control lever right to left from a neutral position relative to the direction the operator is facing controls the forward or reverse direction and the speed of the truck. The mast and carriage operations are controlled by the lever being pushed or pulled by the operator transversely to the direction of travel. The force required to displace the lever in one direction is less than that required in the other consistent with the large muscle groups employed to overcome the respective forces. Movement of the lever is also consistent with the direction of movement being imparted to the particular function being performed consistent with the ergonomics of a stand-up lift truck.
