Abstract:
A method and system for providing distributed printing is disclosed. The method and system include providing a plurality of printers, at least one print spooler, and at least one relational database coupled with the print spooler. The print spooler(s) are for managing printing operations. The relational database(s) are coupled with the print spooler. The relational database also includes a plurality of tables that store a plurality of print objects.

Abstract:
A method, computer program product and print server for discovering printers connected to a print server. A print server may transmit a HyperText Transport Protocol (HTTP) request to every Internet Protocol (IP) address in a range of IP addresses. A response, e. g. , a document such as a web page, may be received by the print server from one or more devices at one or more IP addresses in the range of IP addresses. The print server may identify one or more out of these devices that transmitted a response as printers based on analyzing the responses from the devices. The print server may obtain printer attribute information from the identified printers and update a database with the obtained printer attribute information.

Abstract:
A video processing apparatus may be controlled in response to selecting an advertisement displayed in connection with a productivity or communication application software program being operated on a video processing apparatus. The advertisement includes control information, which is used by the video processing apparatus to control an operating mode thereof. The control information may include both time and channel data as well as a recording data for programming a timer. Alternately, the control information may only include program data, which is passed to the electronic program guide to determine the time and channel information associated with the program data.
Electronic Program Guide With Rapid Time Advancement Feature
Method and apparatus for rapidly advancing an EPG, wherein a viewer can use a time line to advance an EPG hours, days, weeks and/or months in the future to a desired day and time. The viewer can then advance the time window of the EPG as is conventionally done in one-half hour increments to view desired program listings.
System And Method For Displaying A Summary Menu Of Stored User Profiles
A method for controlling viewing of television programs comprising storing user profile records comprising fields having values in a memory; providing a user interface having a list of the stored user profile records; and upon user command, displaying a stored user profile record in summary form in the user interface. Preferably, the user command comprises highlighting a stored user profile record in the list, resulting in the values of the highlighted stored user profile record being displayed in summary form in the user interface.
Method And Interface For Controlling A Digital Recording Apparatus
A digital recording apparatus and a method for controlling a digital recording apparatus that provides for allowing the user to easily determine the available recording time that remains on a memory of the apparatus in response to a record command. According to an exemplary embodiment, the method includes steps of detecting a first user input representing a command to start recording, and enabling display of a first screen message responsive to the first user input, where the first screen message indicates a remaining recording time available on a memory of the apparatus. The command to start recording is a command that does not specify a total recording time, for example, by the user actuating a RECORD key on a remote control device associated with the apparatus. The present invention also automatically provides another screen message that allows the user to delete data from the memory if it is determined that insufficient available recording time remains on the memory.
Direct Channel Entry For Tuner And Satellite Or Cable Receiver Both Enabled From A Menu Offering Visual Feedback
Valerie Liebhold - Carmel IN, US Anthony Stuart - Zionsville IN, US
International Classification:
H04N 5/44
US Classification:
348725000
Abstract:
A television signal receiver provides visual feedback in response to the receipt of a direct entry digit for a television channel change that indicates the channel number being entered by the user and the television signal tuning device or tuner thereof to which the entered television channel number pertains, particularly with respect to a tuner of the television signal receiver and one or more auxiliary television signal tuners. The various auxiliary television signal tuners are preferably, but not necessarily, with respect to separate components, such as a satellite receiver and a cable set-top box. Upon receipt of a direct entry television channel, television channel tuning may, by default, be performed on the tuner associated with the previously (i.e. last) tuned channel. Default tuning may be selectable by the user. The visual feedback may be in the form of an information banner. The information banner may also allow the toggling between the separate components in order to allow channel change from the separate component.
Creation Of Digital Program Playback Lists In A Digital Device Based On Hierarchal Grouping Of A Current Digital Program
Scott Allan Kendall - Lexington KY, US Anthony Edward Stuart - Zionsville IN, US
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
7071041, 707E17009
Abstract:
Playback list creation for digital programs in a digital device utilizes navigation path used to locate a particular digital program in a hierarchally-ordered grouping of digital programs, the grouping based on organization parameters of the digital program. The playback list is created from digital programs within the navigation path used to reach the selected digital program. The playback list may be shuffle-played or played in order. Playback of a different digital program causes changes to the navigation path, which then changes the playback list. In an MP3 player, for example, ID3 tag attributes are used as organization parameters to provide hierarchal grouping of digital audio files.
