Abstract:

An edible foam carrier is provided comprising aerated stabilizers adapted to receive a medicament. Also provided is a method for producing an edible foam carrier, the method comprising aerating a water-soluble stabilizer to create a three-dimensional structure, and confining medicaments to the structure. The structure can be homogenous or the result of multi-extrusion processes whereby a core and a sleeve are coextruded to define a single construct.

Abstract:

A squeezable, flexible tubular package for an edible product is compartmented to simultaneously hold a first edible product in one compartment separate from a second edible product in another juxtaposed compartment. The package includes an elongated enclosure defined by a pair of transparent, flexible film strips bonded to one another around the periphery thereof by a liquid tight seal; and a membrane situated between the film strips, bonded to the periphery of the film strips by a liquid tight seal, partitioning the enclosure into a pair of juxtaposed, liquid tight compartments. An extrudable, edible product is separately contained in each of the compartments. Apparatus for continuously and successively forming, filling and sealing articulated arrays of such packaged products is also disclosed.

Abstract:

Disclosed is a method for producing individual, crunch-confectionery-coated edible nuts. The raw, unblanched nuts are first coated with a film-forming polysaccharide to maintain the skins adhered to the nuts in a durable polysaccharide coating. The coated nuts are then subjected to shear mixing, e. g. , in a pan coater, during which sucrose syrup is applied to the polysaccharide-coated nuts. Heat is applied to the nuts during shear mixing to remove moisture and to thereby form a crystalline coating, which is then partially melted to form a crystalline-amorphous coating on top of the polysaccharide coating on the individual nuts.

Abstract:

A controlled melting point matrix is disclosed. The matrix is formed by admixing low melting point hydrophobic materials with a substantially amorphous material obtained from subjecting a feedstock to conditions of temperature and pressure which induce flash flow of the feedstock. The admixture is then subjected to conditions which induce at least partial crystallization of the substantially amorphous material thereby capturing the hydrophobic material and providing the controlled melting point matrix of the invention. Methods of producing a controlled melting point matrix are disclosed. Methods of using controlled melting point matrices to form improved comestibles are also disclosed.
