Abstract:

The complexity of a fracture network may be enhanced during a hydraulic fracturing operation by monitoring operational parameters of the fracturing job and altering stress conditions in the well in response to the monitoring of the operational parameters. The operational parameters monitored may include the injection rate of the pumped fluid, the density of the pumped fluid or the bottomhole pressure of the well after the fluid is pumped. The method provides an increase to the stimulated reservoir volume (SRV).

Abstract:

Cement slurries are provided for use in cementing oil and gas wells. The cement slurry comprises API Class C or Class H Portland cement and a pozzolan selected from the group consisting of pumice and mixtures of pumice and fly ash. Pumice is present in the mixtures in amounts at least about 40 wt % of the pozzolan. The weight ratio of the pozzolan to the cement is from about 35:65 to about 70:30. The novel cement slurries preferably will not comprise any additional lime, including hydrated lime, or other activators.

Spacer fluids are provided for use in cementing liners in oil and gas wells. The fluids comprise pumice and a suspending agent. Pumice is the first-in weighting agent and is added in amounts sufficient to stabilize the rheology of the fluid over time and temperature.

Abstract:

Borate crosslinked fluids are provided for use in oil and gas well fracturing operations. The fluids have relatively low loadings of galactomannan gums such as guar. The guar is present in an amount from about 10 to about 15 ppt. A borate crosslinking agent comprising ulexite is used to crosslink the guar and control the viscosity of the fluid.

Abstract:

Sealers are used to selectively divert flow through liner openings during stimulation operations. The sealers comprise an aggregate of dissolvable particles that will allow the sealer to dissolve more quickly once the stimulation operation is finished. The aggregate preferably comprises a distribution of different particle sizes. Larger particles will provide the primary bridge across the opening, with smaller sizes filling gaps between the larger particles and allowing the aggregate to more effectively plug the opening.

Abstract:

A system and method that uses fluid diversion to selectively re-fracture a location of a multizone horizontal wellbore. A tubing string is extended from the surface to a location within the wellbore that is to be re-fractured. The annulus between the tubing string and the wellbore contains a first fluid and a second fluid is contained within the tubing string. The annulus may be sealed off at or near the surface and the second fluid is pumped out of the tubing string to initiate the re-fracture of the first location. The annulus seal may then be unset and the first fluid may be pumped down the annulus simultaneous to pumping a third fluid down the tubing string to re-fracture the first location. After re-fracturing the first location, the first location may be hydraulically isolated from the wellbore to permit a second location to be re-fractured.
