Abstract:
Fluoroalkylsilane-treated metal oxide particles and a fluoroelastomeric binder are dispersed in a fluorinated solvent with a low boiling point and applied to a substrate via spray deposition. The spray deposition process rapidly produces a conformal coating that features low surface energy and surface topography with a large range of characteristic length scales and re-entrant curvature, thereby imparting superoleophobicity. The degree of superoleophobicity is readily adjusted by means of altering the ratio of particles to binder. The choice of particle and binder result in coatings with thermal stability for thousands of hours at temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius as well as desirable mechanical characteristics.

Abstract:
Certain embodiments of the invention described herein comprise a composition of matter, and method for preparing the same, which provide the benefits of pre-reaction molecular configuration favoring high liquidity properties, and post-reaction configuration that favors mechanical strength, stiffness, and properties associated with high viscous and/or solid-state materials. In some embodiments, the composition of matter can comprise relaxing photo-isomerizable fragments, of which a fraction can be transformed from trans to cis configurations upon exposure to a photon source. In some embodiments, the composition of matter further comprises thermally reactive fragments, of which can enable thermal solidification of a mixture upon exposure to elevated temperatures. In some embodiments, a composition of matter can be combined with reinforcing additives to form a prepreg combination.

International Classification:
C08G 77/00
Abstract:
A thermosetting resin. The resin includes a silane and a co-reactant monomer. The silane includes a quaternary silicon atom with first and second non-hydrolyzable moieties chemically bonded thereto. Each of the first and second non-hydrolyzable moieties includes respective first and second reactive groups. The reactive groups include at least one aromatic or unsaturated group having a triple bond.

Abstract:
A reactive, non-hydrolyzable silane. The silane comprises a quaternary silicon atom and first and second terminal groups. Each of the first and second terminal groups is chemically bonded to the quaternary silicon atom and is selected from a group consisting of cyanate ester, epoxide, episulfide, acrylate, alkene, styrenic, maleimide, phthalonitrile, acetylene, aryl ethynylene, benzoxazine, anthracene, aniline, trifluorovinyl ether, and perfluorocyclobutyl.
Method For Producing Cyanurate Networks Via Inductive Heating Of Silica-Coated Magnetic Nanoparticles
- Wright-Patterson AFB OH, US Andrew Guenthner - Lancaster CA, US Joseph Mabry - Lancaster CA, US
International Classification:
C08G 18/02
US Classification:
528 55
Abstract:
A method for curing a macromolecular cyanurate network. The method of curing includes suspending a plurality of functionalized silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles in a resin mixture, which includes cyanate ester monomers, cyanate ester oligomers, or both. After a static magnetic field is applied to the plurality of functionalized silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles in the resin mixture, an alternating electromagnetic field (having frequency ranging from about 1 kHz to about 10 MHz) is imposed for a cure time.
