Abstract:
By using a spun extrusion method to form a side entry exhaust inlet, a muffler can be completely stuffed and end caps can be spun onto opposing ends of the muffler on a high speed production line without interruptions. The side entry exhaust inlet is formed within a muffler shell at a position between the opposing ends. A spinning tool engages an internal peripheral area of the side entry exhaust inlet to form a spun extruded surface that extends outwardly from the muffler shell.

Abstract:
A heater for a vehicle exhaust system includes a housing defining a fluid chamber, and the housing has a fluid inlet configured to receive fluid from a fluid supply and a fluid outlet. A helical body is positioned within the fluid chamber and a heater is integrated into the helical body to heat fluid supplied from the fluid supply such that heated fluid can be injected into a vehicle exhaust component via the fluid outlet. At least one sensor is integrated into the helical body to measure a fluid characteristic.

Abstract:
An automotive vehicle includes an exhaust aftertreatment system. The exhaust aftertreatment system includes a mixer, a doser that injects a reducing agent into the mixer, and a selective catalytic reduction unit. The exhaust aftertreatment system mixes exhaust gases and the reducing agent for treatment prior to the exhaust gases being discharged into the atmosphere. Some components of the exhaust aftertreatment system are positioned proximate to an associated combustion engine to minimize thermal energy loss from the exhaust gases prior to interaction with the exhaust aftertreatment system.
