Base-Cup For Assuring Vertical Alignment Of Semi-Hemispherically Bottomed Bottles
A base-cup for supporting a bottle in an upright position is disclosed for use with a bottle having a semi-hemispherical bottom and having a radial indentation in the lower portion of its otherwise generally cylindrical body. The base-cup includes a sole plate and a cylindrical side wall having an open top edge with an annular bead on the inside thereof, and a bottom edge smoothly merging into the sole plate. The base-cup also includes limit means projecting upward from the sole plate into the interior of the base-cup for preventing the over-insertion of the bottle into the base-cup. Preferred embodiments of the limit means are illustrated which include circumferentially equally spaced and radially extending fillet webs joining the side wall to the sole plate, and upwardly projecting rings situated approximately midway between the center of the sole plate and the point at which the side wall smoothly merges into the sole plate.

Abstract:
A closure for bottles is disclosed which includes an internal radius support disk or cylinder for positioning within the bottle mouth to enable the bottle to resist radial inward deformation when subjected to pasteurization or other post-bottling heat treatment. The closure can be formed by coining a conventional aluminum roll-on cap blank using a pressure block having a central land projectable into the mouth of the bottle to form the support disk or cylinder from the top of the cap blank.

Abstract:
A blow-molded and tempered PET container specially adapted for hot filling includes a plurality of panels situated in circumferentially spaced locations around the periphery of the container, the panels bulging outwardly with respect to the body portion immediately contiguous thereto. The panels are mechanically reconfigurable to an inwardly collapsed position with respect to the immediately contiguous body portion for providing controlled volumetric reduction of the container to compensate for the development of a partial vacuum within the container.

Abstract:
An injection stretch blow molded container is disclosed having an integral tab for hanging the container with the finish end down so as to facilitate removal of the contents of the container. A method of making the container is disclosed which includes the use of an injection molded parison having an integral tab of the size and dimensions desired for the container tab. The parison is then situated in a blowing mold having a pocket for receiving the integral appendage. The parison is stretched until the appendage is received in the pocket in the mold wall and then blown to form the container having a wall conforming to the interior of the blowing mold. A surface of the integral appendage performs the function of the mold wall with respect to a portion of the container.
