Abstract:
A process for preparation of an activated or sensitized polyimide polymer, deposition of various catalysts on the sensitized polymer and subsequent plating on said sensitized and catalyzed surface of a metal, e. g. , nickel, cobalt, copper, or gold from an electroless bath; improved adhesion, avoidance of blistering, etc. are observed; the process is capable of producing useful printed circuits such as for mounting integrated circuit chips.

Abstract:
Flat panel display device comprises a multiplicity of LED's arranged in parallel rows and parallel columns in accordance with a grid pattern. First bus conductors extend parallel to the rows and each of the LED's is electrically connected to one of the first bus conductors. Second bus conductors extend parallel to the columns and each LED is connected to one of the second bus conductors. The first and second bus conductors are on the oppositely facing surfaces of an insulating film and the LED's extend through openings in the film located on the grid pattern. Contact with the LED's is achieved by tap conductors which extend from the bus conductors to the LED's. A rigid grating is mounted against the film and has open cells which are located in accordance with the grid pattern. Each LED extends into one of the cells and the internal surfaces of the cells serve to reflect the light of the LED's towards the viewer. The grating also serves to support the film during assembly of the LED's to the film and to support the film after the LED's are assembled.

Abstract:
A method is disclosed for the generation of circuit patterns on a polyimide type of substrate by preconditioning the substrate's surface with a hydrazine/caustic solution, depositing a catalyst on the surface treated polymer, and exposing the polymer with the catalyst thereon to a bath having a metal therein capable of deposition electrolessly on the polymer surface containing catalyst.

Abstract:
Deposition of metal onto a polyimide film by an electroless method is disclosed. The subject method finds particular application in generating metal patterns on polyimide substrates, such as films. The subject method employs a photographic like technique for generating on a polyimide substrate, a pattern capable of attracting thereon a precious metal-salt which is useable as a catalyst in an electroless plating process. The methods disclosed are useable in an electroless plating process to produce a metallic pattern, such as an electric circuit pattern for mounting integrated circuit chips, etc.

Abstract:
Provided herein are novel layered elastomeric connectors, housings therefor and methods of manufacture for the connectors which includes alternating fused layers of a dielectric elastomer and electrically conductive fibrous mats coextensive with a cross section of the conductor to provide a multiplicity of conductive pathways between two electrically conductive surfaces. In order to promote a more mechanically stable connector, the fibrous mats can be exposed to a coupling agent for enhanced bonding. To enhance the electrical characteristics, the fibrous mats can be electroplated with an electrically conductive metal.
The present invention relates to manufacture of electrical conductors by winding small gauge wires helically on a drum, bonding the wires to a flexible sheet of polymeric material also wrapped on the drum, and stripping from the drum the composite of wires and polymeric material that form an array of flat, spring resilient, lengths of substantially parallel conductors.
