Abstract:
A light emitting diode (LED) illumination device provides an arrangement of LEDs spaced from the base of the device. The LEDs are spaced in a staggered vertical arrangement. The configuration of LEDs manages heat such that brightness and lifespan are maximized. In addition, the arrangement of LEDs broadens the project area of the device.
A heat dissipation apparatus for a light emitting diode (LED) lamp includes passive heat dissipation elements that enable the LED lamp to meet form factor standards while managing heat to optimize operation and lifespan of the LEDs. The heat dissipation apparatus includes a reflector dish that has surface area enhancement features. The heat dissipation apparatus is in thermal connection with the lamp LEDs. The heat dissipation apparatus further includes a heat pipe that further enhances the passive heat dissipation.
An LED lamp has an arrangement of LEDs that results in light emitted in a substantially spherical light field. The LED lamp has a bulb-shaped body with at least one LED at the top and a number of LEDs positioned around the circumference of the body. The LEDs are arranged such that light is emitted forward from the lamp and also from the sides of the lamp. Accordingly, the LED lamp, for example, in operation provides illumination in direction and intensity very similar to an incandescent bulb.
